WASHINGTON — The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell 5,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 305,000, the second-lowest level in six years. Steady declines in applications show that very few companies are laying off workers.

The Labor Department said Thursday that the less volatile four-week average declined 7,000 to 308,000, the lowest since June 2007.

All states reported their first-time applications on time, a department spokesman said. Applications plummeted three weeks ago because computer upgrades in California and Nevada prevented them from fully reporting their data. Those states have cleared their backlogs, the spokesman said.

"Based on these figures, the labor market is getting better, albeit at a modest pace," Joseph LaVorgna, chief US economist at Deutsche Bank.

Only 305,000 people last week lost their jobs. And you call this a victory? Only in the mind of a Liberal Obamabot would this be a good thing.

When Obama's peeps create as many jobs as new food stamp recipients, you'll have something to boast about.
Until then, quit apologizing for Obama.

The four week average for new unemployment claims was over 800,000 when Obama first took office. Now it is 300,000. That is solid improvement on the mess Bush created by any measure.

OPEN your eyes.
How many people do you know that have a failed small business or have been laid off? I network with dozens. Most of them ended up in lesser jobs after long periods without any job. I know of several people that now have to support their famlies by taking multiple part time jobs. Is your household buying power better than it was even a couple of years ago? If it is, is it because YOU went out? If not, I would love to hear the reason, because it sure isn't because you dollar buys more...
