That's good. I do feel compassion for her and her family. She had a job as a bank teller. It's tough when you have to get your kids up and take them with you. I'm not even sure any jail time is warranted in this situation.
Sorry, but I must disagree. You understand what the law says, regarding what is allowed and what is not when you have a learner's permit, do you? You do understand that she didn't have ANY insurance on the car, which is required, right?

You also realize that probably none, but certainly not all, of the little kids were not properly seat belted in, and restrained, so that they would be a lesser distraction I would think.

Yes, I'm sure that it is tough to get a bunch of little kids up early in the morning, throwing them in a car, and getting out there in morning rush hour, but just a second or two of distraction or carelessness resulted in what we now know today.

If the driver was not a parent of one or more of these kids, would you feel the same way? The laws are pretty clear, and they aren't defined in 50 shades of grey. After the investigators examine the car and the other circumstances, unless something really unusual turns up, I think that some criminal charges may be warranted.

I'd say that it is her lawyer running "blocker" for his client.

I'd put the MnDOT engineer responsible in jail for failure to protect the public from OBVIOUS RISK.
Simple inexpensive measures could be taken to prevent further MASS KILLINGS by the fully automatic pond. Imagine the uproar IF somoeone had used a semiautomatic glock to kill 3 little kids? It's be on national news and Local, State, and federal level hearings would be held on banning guns. Yet 2 kids are killed because of a bad design goat trail ramp and NOTHING is done.
First of all, that is NOT a "complex" ramp. It has an easy left turn to get around the pond, then an easy right turn right before you enter northbound Hwy. 100. There are no "hairpin" curves, blind spots, or major elevation changes on that ramp.

It also is NOT a "bad design goat trail" ramp. Give me a BREAK.
It is relatively SMOOTH asphalt, with no noticeable cracks or potholes. It is clearly marked as a 2-LANE-WIDE ramp. If the pavement is clean and dry, as it was that morning, entering the ramp from either direction from Hwy. 7 at 25-30 MPH, you should have no problem keeping your car on the pavement. If you can't, you have no business being behind the wheel of a car or anything else.

Not to flog a dead horse but.

The car was west bound on hwy 7 and turned right off hwy 7 to the ramp which leads to hwy 100 north bound. Speed limit is 45 on hwy 7 and drivers never opey the speed limit, nobody does. There are NO reduced speed limit signs for the ramp, so it's safe to calculate the driver was going 50 MPH or more on the ramp.

That morning it was misty, not dry.

While the ramp doesn't have any sharp turns there is the moderate hard right to turn off hwy 7 to the right. There is a median raised curbing in the center of the intersection north of hwy 7 to separate the traffic from west bound hwy 7 and east bound hwy 7 which are both entering the ramp to drive onto north bound 100.

And then imagine at 50 MPH after turning onto the ramp to encounter a YIELD SIGN?? Use google and see it, yes a yield sign that isn't visible until you enter the ramp around the corner and the YIELD SIGN is obstructed by a utility pole.

Being that the driver isn't remembering what happened before entering the pond, the truth will probably come out that she was on a cell or texting.

In any case there clearly should be barriers in front of the pond. BTW, it wouldn't cost much to install barriers, certinaly less than the total cost of this one wreck.

Taking a look at the weather on the faitfull day of this fatal crash, at the time of the crash the temp and dewpoint were equal. So it was indeed precipitaing when this crash occurred. Roads were wet and visibility may have been reduced adding to confusion in the cockpit.

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/K...

Reminds me of a wreck where the left turn signal was stuck on red. The lead driver was inexperianced and when the car behind her beeped the horn she simply drove thru the intersection and was broadsided by a legally traveling car. Of course the legal car wasn't insured etc so the drive took a fall.

A more recent wreck up north a woman ended up going the wrong way in the rain in a construction zone. When she figured it out she backed up into the correct lane which was occupied by a traveling semi. The womans car was near totaled and the semi trailer was totaled and the semi driver didn't have a valid drivers license. Troopers said the matter would be put on hold, under the rug it goes.

Driving is NOT a simple act.

Ummmm, we don't know that. For all we know the unlicensed driver could have been distracted by 5 unrestrained kids, and we don't know if she was drivin'too fast or using one of those texting thingies.

Oh, Bob, Bob, Bob, I don't mess with those lemons, light bulbs, and other judging things.
And I'm a very busy guy, but you are hung up on the road and my comment was about the driver, so , actually, your comment was unresponsive.
Also, if you think I voted for a two-bit Marxist community organizer with a Muslim name, you are off your rocker!

Government is now saying the young driver over corrected which ended up with her car in the pond.
It was dark, it was misty and foggy the road was wet there are NO signs warning of the ramp and NO signs indicating where the road goes.
The young driver made a fatal mistake, happens every day.
MnDOT should have had barriers and signs up warning of the pond and where the road goes.
Fatal mistakes do not happen everyday. This is just more hyoerbole from you. It was a terrible accident. Let it go.
