I'm sorry you don't know the meaning of hubris, so are frightened.
Hubris (hu' bris) noun,[Greek hybris], wanton insolence or arrogance resulting from excessive pride or from passion.

My views about same-sex marriage come not from religious belief, but from my own deep conviction that I have no right to meddle in other people's lives, so long as they don't pose a threat to mine.
Your "rules" should come not from your church, but from your conscience. That's why God gave you one.
Good for you! And I have a deep conviction in the teachings of my church. I might add I have a deep conviction in less government, strong law enforcement and personal accountability/responsibility as well.

jesus was just a re-hash of previous cult's myths. form his fake virgin birth to his fake un-death. don't even try the he changed gods law about slavery. infallible gods don't change their mind and regardless, no god would ever condone slavery...ever...
So you can't provide me with a single verse in the New Testament that indicates or supports your comment! Sorry Woody, but that is really weak and lacks your normal substance!

No I am the one who is comfortable with my life, with my God and with the teaching of his church. If I am wrong, then I alone will answer for my sins and misgivings. To believe God is benevolent and merciful, without believing he is also demanding and just is mystifying!

your god also spoke in the old testament. why do you not know your own cult's bible?

your mythical god is a big fan of slavery...gave it a very clear and resounding OK!

why would any rational or moral person worship such a god?

If, as you say, my God is mythical, in other words, doesn't exist, what is your concern? Why not just allow me to believe in what I believe in, forge the battles I wish to forge and leave me alone? Why? Are you attempting to convince yourself of his non-existence?

"Benevolent and and merciful", those are the words you guys always seem to forget about God.

Why not let HIM do His job and YOU mind your own business here?

You admit you cannot know His mind. How do you know what He is thinking?

When we hear about some horrible tragedy, like the Newtown shooting, you guys try to justify it with the tiresome.."it's God's will!' like God WANTED innocent children to die horribly?

HOW do you know that being gay is also NOT God's will? No one can know the way He works. Including you.

??? deep conviction is less government, yet you want me to pay for strong, bigger and bigger law enforcement. If you want tons of more government, in more and more regulations for law enforcement to enforce, then you pay for it. We already have too much law enforcement. Let's see you pay the 90% taxation rate. I would prefer my money going to rebuild the infrastructure, re-creating an educational system, re-creating medical access, re-creating a social safety net.

The typical right wing spew is that we have to pay a fortune in taxes to protect the rights and properties of the rich, sucking every last dime from those who work, yet doing nothing for the very people who pay those taxes.

"you guys"? Really? Lets deal straight up, I am a life long member of the Roman Catholic Church, first by birth, then by Choice. I am not one of "you guys"
God never wishes for evil to fall upon anyone, especially his innocent children, but he created man/woman with a free will and it is that will that determines the happenings on earth. That Free Will included making choices to either follow the teaching of Christ or not. I don't believe in homosexual activity and am opposed to Gay marriage. If, at the end of my life, the decisions I made, of my own free will, including my beliefs in the Roman Catholic Church, are wrong, I will be punished. If what I believe is true to His teachings, then I will be rewarded. God is concerned about the salvation of my soul, and the souls of all he has created.

If you're so sure about it, then why stand on the roof top and crow like a rooster about it?

Even Jesus said to NOT preach in the streets and to stay home and pray in private, why don't you listen to HIM for once?

Well, to start with, I didn't start this thread, I merely defended one right not to be called a bigot merely because of one's religious belief. Then the Anti-Gods, who are all aparently connect via some internet website, jumped on in an attempt to ridicule my belief and tarnish my religion, one calling it Mythical and one attempting to demean my person. Then you come along, bascially to defend the "gay/Lesbian" viewpoint, which my faith is opposed to. I go to church every Sunday and proclaim my belief in God. I do so as a very public act and expression of my faith. I don't need to preach from the roof tops but if God asked, I would. Having a deep rooted conviction in something is very calming! Try it sometime!

Becasue cult members like you keep trying to use this myth in making our laws and using to cloak your prejudices as religious freedom.

the further away from these stone-age myths we get, the better we will become as world. look at all the current problems these cults create. it is the inherent divisive nature of religion...

Woody, The Congress makes laws. The Catholic Church, like labor unions, or PAC or other lobby groups, including those groups who support Gay Marriage, all use their influence as much as they can to lobby Congress or State Legislators to create or make laws. What I am sensing here is your distaste for the RCC and not necessarily for God. They are not one in the same, although you certainly are trying to paint them that way!
