Key shakers and movers will be meeting over the next couple of months to measure the impact of this entire legislative session on the economy and the business atmosphere in Minnesota. It will not affect immediate plans, as most are too far into their fiscal year, but short and long term plans, especially for expansion and growth, will definitely be impacted

While it was not due to the Minimum Wage Bill, it certainly is applicable and a predictor of the future.

I have proudly stated that we have a human being answer our phones at your main office. It is something we consciously chose to do, and it cost us just over $35,000 per year to have this human touch.

Our receptionist recently decided that she wanted to retire. We wished her well and immediately bought an automated phone system from our communications provider.

In the first 6 months, the entire system is paid for in savings over having a human being sit in that chair. We will not have to worry about sick days, covering vacations, or complying with Obamacare regulations for this position.

Sadly, that means there is one person who will not get a chance to join our company and potentially advance within the firm.

My company is not unique.

Between Obamacare and the Minimum Wage Law that is about to be passed, there are a lot of companies that will not be hiring to replace people.

I said it before, and it is just as true now. The idiots that support legislation like this think they are going to do some good for those on the lower half of the employment scale.

B.S. They are hurting those people. Congratulations to you DFL.

I contract with a call center to handle my sales calls with a live human voice, from a center in Columbus Ohio. The calls my office manager misses go to a live voice in Ohio, all for around $300 a month.

I have about 22 employees. With all the regs and taxes put on my business by the Democrats, any hire that does not perform core functions of the business can and will be done by automation, sub-contractors, and outside business providers. My previous office manager was a CPA, I hired one with no accounting background, trained on ledger, and sent the payroll function to ADP for $90 a payroll run. The books go quarterly to my CPA for review.

With the 50 employee threshold for Obamacare, it is at least a $60k hit to profit to hire the 50th employee. Many small businesses will keep their payrolls under 50 to keep from paying this penalty.

That is the way of the future. More and more companies will be outsourcing various duties to a consolidator, sub-contractor, or a machine.

Because we have customers internationally, in addition to all time zones in the US, we could not restrict our "office hours" to the typical work day in the Central Time Zone. We had our phones manned for 13 hours per day. After that, we had a night mode where urgent issues were attended to 24/7.

Now, we can have all calls handled 24 hours a day. And it will cost damned near nothing.

More automation. Less jobs. More profit. Fewer headaches with government regulations and intervention.

If there ever was a win-win, this is it.

Now...I have been in the minority on this issue. For years, I have been dead set against getting rid of the human voice when you first call our offices. But with the pending launch of Obamacare, why would I want to subject myself and my company to those problems?

Way to go Democrats. You sure are helping the little guy get a job and prosper, arenít you?

There will be many small business doing the same thing over the next couple of years! Restricted growth, keep cash, limit spending, maintain or lose little margin. Not the mentality needed to grow. You could invest in IMMR however and become an instant millionaire :-)

Niether, I have a question for you.

You are a successful businessman who has seen the various business cycles this economy has experienced over the past 35 plus years, right?

You are a well educated individual, too. You read from a variety of sources, and you scrutinize your facts before opening your mouth on any subject.

You are just the type of person that most people look up to and say "I can learn something from that him."

Yet, you are hounded to the end of Al Gore's Internet by some jackass who's main claim to fame was that he/she was NOT FIRED by the United States Post Office.

It really makes no sense - unless you are the jackass who hides in his basement and pretends to be from Seattle.

Now the question...is it sunny and warm finally in MN yet?

Instant millionaires today are created by convincing Obama you have wonderfull "Green Machine". He will instantly give you MILLIONS of taxpayer cash to make sure your "Green Company" will make all kinds of money. IF your "Green Company" doesn't make all kinds of mony all you need to do is support the president per his directions.

Tank the company and it's over, another wonderful "Green Company".

That's how a Chicago Community Organizer creates success.

SL First of all thank you for all the kind words. As one who has always attempted to be balanced in my approach to life, although I do have certain biases on certain issues, I can say, with the utmost confidence, despite the Cloud of Gov. Google-eyes, Minny should now be into a nice warm summer. Those of us in Sconnieville, will also enjoy a warm summer, without the same tax burden!:-)

You are welcome, and it might be time to head back to MN then.

Hey, nice going with pissing off the (cough-cough) Seattle resident. When you get to the point of him copying your name on here, you have won the battle and the war.

Sadly, it is as tough as beating a 3 year old in a game of chess. Not much of a contest. The mental capacity of the basement dweller who claims to be from WA is miniscule.
