Poor and hungry? You must be on drugs

While you were sleeping, a little under-the-radar legislating was going on:
The House late Wednesday voted to give states the authority to conduct drug testing on people applying for food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
And the rationale for this latest effort to demean the poor?
"If adopted, this amendment would join a list of good-government reforms contained in the farm bill to save taxpayer money and ensure integrity and accountability within our nutrition system," [Rep. Richard] Hudson said.
"From preventing lottery winners from receiving food stamps, to closing loopholes and preventing illegal immigrants from receiving benefits, I commend the chairman and ranking member on the work done to reform the food stamps program in the farm bill."
Never mind that food stamp recipients are no more likely to use illegal drugs than, say, a Republican congressman from North Carolina.
It's too bad there's not a test for generally assholery, because Mr. Hudson and his Republican pals would pass with flying colors.

Food Stamps shouldn't exist in the first place. That said no point wasting time on drug testing (it failed in Florida), while some were caught it was a very small number)

176 Defende shouldn't exist in the first place. An ancient decrepit old man, his views don't represent those of anyone anymore.
