Cyprus liberals also had the notion that all wealth belonged to the state and could be withheld in larger percentages whenever the state needed it. People that were determined to have had 'excess' were targeted for wealth confiscation.

Don't think Obama isn't watching this closely.

The Truth wrote:
Why should the rich pay at higher tax rates than they do now>
Because they are the only economic group that has seen measurably increased income in recent years.
I don't think that any other groups have seen any gains in their earnings and wages. I think the other groups have all seen losses.
The losses really hurt when you are in a lower income group. If you had an income of $50,000 per year, and it decreases to $35,000, that can determine whether or not you can pay your rent or afford health insurance.$50,000 is slightly above average, but $35,000 is below it. Assuming it is a loss in income that hits pretty much across that pay range, it is a loss of $15,000 that can't be taxed by the government. At that pay level, your money is taken out of your paycheck. You have normally no choice but to pay your taxes. So the government loses income. And actually,$50,000 is probably a pretty high starting figure for the incomes of people who have been losing the financial tug-of-war.
As we saw with Romney, people who make millions, lots more than the $50,000-30,000 level have all kinds of ways to hide their income and protect it from taxes. At most the earner of the lower wage or salary can maybe buy a house and deduct the interest or the taxes on that. The person earning millions hires an accountant and shields his money from taxes -- finds tax shelters.
That is the way that it works and that is why those who have gained need to pay at very high tax rates while those who earn relatively little should not.
The person earning $35,000 now who earned more later may have already lost a home and may be doing two jobs now rather than the one he or she did before. I have seen that in my family.
The odd thing is that the person who earns less, say a couple with three children, has in some respects more crises in life than those who earn more. The low earners' cars break down. The electricity gets turned off. Buying the kids' school clothes is a crisis that takes mom to the second-hand store. The other kids in school have the internet and computers. Your kids don't. It's a never-ending battle focused on money.
For the families that do better, the big challenge is not buying everything their children want, not accumulating too much.
Disparity in incomes is a far bigger social malady than high taxes on the rich.
It's the disparity that is dividing our country. We were far better off when I was a child and we were ALL a lot poorer.
So yes I would like to see higher taxes on the rich. They should pay a bigger share toward educating and providing health care for all of our children.
I was born during WWII. When I was growing up, I was taught that we are one country, that we are in it together. I remember how we were all so afraid of the atomic bomb. I remember how proud we were of our response to Sputnik. I still believe that we are one country and in it together. Apparently the rich, those who have gained the most from the technological and scientific progress that our tax dollars have made possible, don't.
There would be no internet, no four-lane highways, no cell phones, no news from Mars, fewer new pharmaceutical miracles, less information about healthy diets and what is happening to our environment, especially the oceans and the how we learn and you name it less information and less knowledge if we didn't tax the rich at rates as high as possible.
The top wealthiest 5% pay 70% of our tax liability. The next 45% of wage earners pay the rest. The bottom 50% either pay nothing or receive benefits that actually increases our overall tax liability.

If my rich roommate paid 70% of our rent, I don't think I could accuse him of not paying his fair share. Furthermore, to publicly question his patriotism for not paying more would make me a slanderous, disgusting human being like you.

This entire argument of yours is probably one of the most ignorant, inflammatory lies in American history.

I'd love to see a Minnesota law mandating people like Mark Dayton who shelters his wealth in South Dakota pay more taxes to Minnesota.

I'll make a bet Dayton doesn't increase HIS phocking taxes...

In the woods a hunter may feed the deer, bear, pigs, etc every day, caring for the biological needs of the mammals.

The hunter plants Food Crops that the mammals enjoy.

The hunter places Free Food like corn, pumpkins, beans, honey, and oats in piles. The hunter makes sure that water is readily available, and that shelter is provided for the mammals comfort.

If the mammals desire "more", the hunter will provide more (for a while). The hunter needs as many mammals as possible so that the hunters desires are met. Sometimes the mammals do not even know that they needed more, or that they were victims because other mammals have creature comforts that the Free Food mammals do not have.

The hunter is on top of this and he steals only the best from his neighbors to feed his mammals.

The Mammals gather together in the location of the Free Food, as close to the Free Stuff as possible. The mammals KNOW where the Free Stuff is and they fight to be the 1st at the Feed Piles. If they cannot get what they demand, the mammals will kill each other off to stay 1st at the Feed Trough.

Eventually the hunter has the Mammals trained. Now the Hunter has a readily available, readily willing, herd of mammals to use as the hunter chooses.

The hunter will kill some of the mammals, but not all.

The hunter OWNS these mammals and they will supply his needs. The mammals sacrifice their nature, and sell their souls for the Free Food that the hunter offers.

The hunter OWNS the mammals. He can reduce the Free Food Choices. He can Move the Feed Pile. He can change the living conditions. He can reduce the amount of free food, water, and stop planting crops.

The mammals will accept multiple abuses by the hunter, and defend the hunters good name against any that threaten the hunter. The mammals have become empty vessels of what God intended them to be.

If you truely are for "a man bettering himself", then you are in the wrong party. The ONLY thing progressives do is prevent people from being able to work for a better life. Instead, they want to take from those that are attempting to better themselves. Handouts were meant to be a temporary thing to help you until you got back on your feet.

"a man bettering himself"

I have an In-Law that exclaims her Victimhood in classic Victim Newspeak.

"I am trying to be Independent, but nobody will help me"

Only a true defect like Slewsie considers the redistribution of one mans wealth to a Dependent, is helping "a man bettering himself".

But, our Resident Sociopath has never had an original thought, so you know she got this expression from other Victim Professionals with websites that the Sheeple visit.

That's because they know Christianity is an corrupt path.
