Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”(Quoting Cesare Beccaria) The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. Our Founding Fathers were very wise men.

Too boring and easy to play the "name the incident" game. There are plenty on either list. So you would support an amendment requiring everyone to be armed? Maybe just lay firearms on end tables like magazines at the dentist office? Issue a handgun to kids when they arrive at school each day? Instead of searching passengers on airplanes for guns check them in with one? Sounds safer to you though.

This is not something Jefferson wrote, but rather comes from a passage he included in his "Legal Commonplace Book." The passage is from Cesare Beccaria's Essay on Crimes and Punishments.

Here are some more Jefferson quotes for you: My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms.

Jefferson wrote it and gave proper citation, unlike some of the posters on here. Shouldn't you be posting some more unattributed garbage from think progress blogs and the Huffington post this morning? I am flattered you are wasting time with me, but you are letting other posters who enjoy ridiculing you down.

So how did Jefferson include it in his writings without writing the quote down? Did he have it printed with a press? Did he dictate it to a secretary? Why did he include it? He wrote the quote from another source in his writings, and attributed credit, as I did when I posted it, loon.
