Today, unions continue serve the same purpose for which they were originally founded. CEO and executive compensation is skyrocketing, while the middle class suffers from layoffs, unemployment and stagnant wages. Average CEO total compensation at S&P 500 companies, according to the AFL-CIO 2010 Pay Watch, is over $11 million.
Current union agendas include increasing wages, raising the standard of living for the working class, ensuring safe working conditions, and increasing benefits for both workers and their families.
Workers need fair treatment today as much as ever
Unions are important because most corporations focus on creating profits at the expense of employees.
The nature of work in America is changing. Employers are trying to shed responsibility for providing health insurance, good pension coverage, reasonable work hours and job safety protections. Instead, companies are making workers' jobs and incomes less secure through downsizing, part-timing, contracting out, and sending jobs off-shore.
More than ever, working people need the collective voice and bargaining power unions provide to keep employers from making the workplace look as it did in the early nineteenth century.
Without collective representation, the threat of sweatshop conditions, unlivable wages and 70-hour work weeks may become a part of working America’s future as well as its past.
Today and in the future, labor unions will continue to play an important role our country’s work force and the quality of life for working families. If you are not a union member, you can learn about the benefits of fighting for the middle class in America.
America’s working families need the representation, collective power, pride in work and fair treatment they in the workplace that they deserve.

Working people have a lot of concerns in this economy. They want decent pay. They want benefits. And of course they want job security. I tell them all the reasons why they need union representation.
Too bad you didn't go to college and learn a few things.

Labor unions today are focuised on membership growth for the sole interest of extortion from the private sector.

Modernm anagement for the past 4 decades has recognized a satisfied worker produces far more than any other situation and will pay competetive wages to accrue that type of labor.

CEOs who produce are worth the money given they hold a skillset a stupid jerkoff like you could never comprehend. Add to that if you compratively look at the wages given top management of a company as opposed to wages given their workforce the money the management represents is but a fraction of the total. I'd rather pay a CEO who knows how to run a large corporation a million a year than lose him or her to another company only to falter given you have some idiot in charge.

It's a free country. You don't like where you work find another job asshat. You don't like what you do then change.

What?? You had 3 kids before you hit the ripe age of 21 and think society and your company owes you a fat life? Move to China....they have those same socialist views. Maybe you should have thought about that before knocking up the fat thing you call your wife.

And as far as "the working man"???? We ALL work shitforbrains. You'd be surprised of the education management had to gain to keep your shbiftless ass employed let alone the stress and hours they face.

You union supporters are more lost than a blind orphan looking for his parents in a closed department store at night.

Being an ignorant smartass won't get you points in here or anywhere else Skippy.

Fact is if your skillset leaves you at a job that's worth $12.95 an hour (and accept that job) then you should have 2 choices in a free economic society. Work hard at a decent living or do something else. But you should not be able to hold a knife to the throat of an employer good enough to hire you thinking you have the right to demand more.

If you disagree then you must LOVE hostage takers and terrorists since they hold your same sense of thought loser.

Union Fail: Walmart Reports Record Sales

by Ben Shapiro
23 Nov 2012, 10:10 AM PDT

Despite union efforts to target retailers like Walmart, businesses are reporting record Black Friday traffic – the biggest sign yet that the unions are out of touch with the American people. Starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Walmart put its products on Black Friday sale, sparking a run to the stores and earning the stores record sales.

They’ve already sold nearly 2 million towels, 1.3 million televisions, and 250,000 bicycles. According to Walmart Chief Executive Bill Simon, over 1.3 million Walmart staffers are on duty. There have been picket lines around the country, but the movement has been far less effective than expected.

Bottom line is the the union protest was a complete and utter bust by the food and commercial union. The market was so concerned about Walmart it had the largest daily stock increase of any of the retail Black Friday stocks, nearly 2%. In truth that union is in a whole lot of trouble, in particular with grocery stores as more and more folks turn to the Walmarts and Target's plus Sam's or Costco. CUB which was the #1 in the Twin Cities may not even be around in the next 10 years as Walmart takes a foot hold in the cities.
Why do you think Supervalu is in such deep trouble? Albertson's and those oversized union contracts that came with that purchase.
Albertson's was already in deep doo doo because of their failure to control their union employee costs. If Supervalu had done their due diligence and examined those bloated wage scales & health benefits costs, they never would have touched that failing chain.
