US Firearms Death Rate
Republican Caused Deaths

Chicago, IL

The number of deaths by firearms in the United States was 32,000 last year.

Around 11,000 were gun homicides. To understand how staggeringly high this number is, compare it to the rate in other rich countries. England and Wales have about 50 gun homicides a year -- 3 percent of our rate per 100,000 people.

Many people believe that America is simply a more violent, individualistic society. But again, the data clarify. For most crimes -- theft, burglary, robbery, assault -- the United States is within the range of other advanced countries.

The category in which the U.S. rate is magnitudes higher is gun homicides. The U.S. gun homicide rate is 30 times that of France or Australia, according to the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, and 12 times higher than the average for other developed countries.

Lawton brought this up in another thread earlier today.

Guns killed 11,000 people in 2011.
Cars killed 32,000 people in 2011.
Time to ban cars.

Banning large clips will protect innocent Americans? How? Keep in mind that they were already banned in CT when the animal gunned down those children. Also, we have laws against murder, rape, and drugs in this country. How is that working out for us?

Actually, the numbers for annual gun deaths and car deaths are very close - around 31k-32k for each. But most car deaths are accidental while almost all gun deaths are intentional. The 11k number for gun deaths is only homicides - plus 18k gun suicides and a couple thousand gun accidents.

Can you break that down in terms of black and white?

And your point is?

How will more laws prevent more deaths? We already have laws against murder and that is not working out so well, is it? What will another law do?

Will new gun laws prevent Mommy from parking on the I94 bridge over Lake Saint Croix and jumping to her death in front of her 10 year old daughter?

Will suicidal people somehow find out how to get'erdone one way or the other?

577,000 people died from cancer this year. Should we ban cancer? I know we are trying but to no avail. We can pass laws outlawing it but it won't help. People will still die. You can not prevent someone from killing mass amounts of people. Take away the guns and they will find another way. Sociopath's will always find a way. Pass a hundred laws on gun control and nothing will change. Try and take guns by force and you will hope to keep body count under 20,000. People will not hand over anything voluntarily. And by force would be a disaster. There are 2 million soldiers here and around world. There are 30 million former soldiers. You do the math!!

Tell us another way, that works as well.... Sorry pal, a gun's purpose is to kill and they're the best at it.... According to your "logic" we shouldn't restrict nuclear weaponry.

AR15, knife, baseball bat, hockey stick, 2x4, pencil, sharpened toothbrush (aka shiv). Which one is considered an assault weapon?

Answer: All of them, If used to commit crime!

Your argument is stupid!
