Full story: TwinCities.com

Anyone tuning into KTLK, 100.3 FM, last weekend expecting to hear some talk radio got a surprise.

I ran into this format change this weekend...and it blows. Now, I have to listen to NPR on weekends to get any sort of intellectual stimulation or news from the radio. I haven't listened to NPR for years. We don't need another KQRS in town on weekends. I understand the costs involved, but I think ultimately KTLK will lose a substantial number of listeners on weekends at least.

The weekends especially Saturday was the day I listened the most. Okay, I confess, I hate the commercials. I podcast the shows I like and listen at my leisure.

So let's not play this game again. What else is there? Pat ranting about some high school sporting event or the Obama cheer section at NPR? I think not.

I kind of like that Kim Commando, or that real estate show when driving around on the weekends. I turned the dial.

It's funny that people think that NPR is a pro-Obama station. I've heard liberals refer to NPR standing for Nice Polite Republicans.

How about classic rock M-F and back to the regular weekend schedule?

Jason Lewis would have to pay a lot less taxes that way.

I missed the talk too, but I have to say, whoever was spinning the records knew what they were doing. Also, this was a one-time deal.

No, I'm fine with that. It's the line up of right wing blowhards that leaves me disinterested.

Unfortunately, nobody spins the records anymore. They're streamed from a server to multiple stations. The only local programming is during the local ad spots and, with some stations, local DJs say a few words between the preprogrammed songs. The days of your favorite DJ playing the songs you want to hear are long gone.

B96 was never intended to be a twin cities radio station. It was supposed to serve western areas including Hutchinson. But now, serving Hutchinson doesn't generate the revenue that trying to be a Twin Cities radio station does. So stop whining, you knew what you bought and were programming. If you don't want to serve a small market, sell it back to people who will.

KTLK - "Versnick said he's not sure if the station will turn to classic rock again next weekend, but as far as a KTLK changing gears entirely, he said that's not the plan."

Yeah, I'll believe that as soon as it snows in Frorida in July.

Hey folks! The downhill slide is just beginning. The Obama generation is taking hold, and we will not let these goons keep playing their stupid little games with trashing every Democrat around.

Get used to this. Lewis, Hannity, Rush, and the rest will soon all be unemployed.(And they will be begging to get some of the Obama stimulus cash tossed their direction.)

Yeah, way to cheer on the suppression of free speech. Let me guess, you were probably one of the losers that called Bush a fascist huh? Yet you glorify in Obama's fascism. What a hypocrite.

Despite your conspiracy theories, this has nothing to do with on-air programming. Radio revenues are down about twenty percent or so everywhere. And for the big companies who overpaid for radio stations, they can't make the payroll with expensive programmers. Music is the simplest way to make money. In fact, you can voice track alot with one or two people and cut payroll down to nothing. If you like alot of music, you probably don't care if you hear the same guys' voice all day or all weekend, or if he's not even in the building.

So, if anyone is here from the radio crowd, I have a question. If they play their usual programming sometimes, and classic rock the remainder, do they satisfy the fairness doctrine and its proposed amendments? Seriously, I am curious.

The Fairness Doctrine has not existed since 1986. What do you mean by proposed amendments? The phrase you are looking for is "public interest, convenience and necessity" and playing music instead of talk programming is not counter to that. If it were, how could all the music stations be ok with their programming?
