Minnesota Vikings Target Dwayne Bowe of Kansas City Chiefs?

No team succeeds in the modern NFL without an ability to pass the football. The Minnesota Vikings have found that out the past few weeks. Is the next step in their rebuilding a move for Dwayne Bowe of the Kansas City Chiefs?
Christian Ponder not the same without Percy Harvin
People knew the Minnesota receiving corps was suspect when the season started. That may have explained why their best pass catcher Percy Harvin raised such a fuss in the off-season to get traded. When he settled down most expected it was just his frustration over the past two seasons in which the Vikings have struggled. Looking back it's clear the fourth year player saw something others chose to ignore. Outside of Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota offense has fallen on disaster since Harvin went down with injury. After managing ten points and 158 yards in Chicago, quarterback Christian Ponder followed it up with 14 points, 119 yards and two horrific interceptions. Either he just isn't a good quarterback or the Vikings really are totally devoid of options at receiver. Based on how Ponder played when Harvin was healthy, it's fair to assume the latter. That means the team has to look for more talent next season.
Bowe continues to thrive despite Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn
One player on the bubble is Kansas City Chiefs star Dwayne Bowe. At age 28 he already has become the best receiver in team history, passing the great Otis Taylor. What makes it so remarkable is how Bowe did it. Unlike Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker and Mike Wallace who have Pro Bowl quarterbacks throwing to them, Bowe made his name catching passes from Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn. Neither player has lived up to their talents but both agree on the fact Bowe is the best player on the offense and perhaps even the team. With four games left he stands at 731 yards receiving, within reach of his fourth 1,000-yard season in five years. His rare blend of size and speed make him a cornerstone of the passing attack and someone Kansas City doesn't want to lose. However after another miserable season the roster is in store for changes. New management may not want to pay Bowe a big contract, leaving him to enter free agency in 2013. Wonderful news for Minnesota if they can find the money.
Percy Harvin was right about the receivers for the Minnesota Vikings but the jury is still out on Christian Ponder. Until the team finds another real weapon they won't know how good the quarterback is. Dwayne Bowe would answer that question in a heartbeat.
