mary jo's shelter cited for lack of security

Heh! Topix missed this! This was the biggest local news on Friday. Mary Jo's Shelter located about the new MN Twins ballpark, has been cited for security violations. Mary Jo responded with a prayer.
The allegations by the City of Minneapolis involved drugs. People were noted as being barred from the center for drugs. And then lighting up a joint outside, putting it away, and going back in.
So it's a tough call, expecially when Mary Jo, the owner, refers the problem to God.
Her husband was shown in a Mpis Tribune photo standing by a security computer terminal. He alleged that there was a new and reliable security system in the venue.
My take on this is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to care for the hordes of people she takes care of and not have a booze, drug or sex problem.
On the other hand, the Salvation Army runs a tight ship just up the street and they are never cited for security violations.
Whew! I am skeptical about the source of this complaint. Here we have sheaky Carl Pohlad's new MN Twins ballpark going up literally down the hille from Mary Jo's. Might he be wanting the get rid of the shelter. BTW, Carl is a Catholic who heavily contributed to the Basilica building fund smoe years ago. And of course Mary Joe is very much a Catholic.
So Hail Mary! Let's say a prayer for enlightenment and getting Mary Jo's shelter straight with God and the City.

Isn't it great that it wasn't an issue till the new stadium people came around? CAn you go anyplace in Murdeapolis and not find the same issues? Its kinda like the people who build by the airport and then complain about the noise and demand someone pays to have there house soundproofed. Maybe they should of built the stadium out of slumville?

I am sorry to say that for all the good Mary Jo does, she definitely could step up her security. There are people that go there that genuinely need help. Then there are people who go there that practically live there; they eat, shower, go to the Dr, get food and clothes. About the only thing they don't do is sleep around the building, but they used to. I'm sorry but IMO, Mary Jo just magnifies the problems that already exist in and around her center, and she doesn't do enough about it. The Salvation Army Harbor Lights used to be like that, but since they've taken steps to do something about that, it's not even half as bad as it used to be. There are services that Mary Jo provides that you can't get anywhere else and I, for one, don't like having to wade my way through all the riff raff that don't wanna do anything with their lives, except getting high, and yes, this was an issue long before we even thought about building the damn stadium; there just wasn't as much focus on it.

The Mpls Tribune knocked itself out covering for the stadium saying the MN Twins have donated to Mary' shelter. And other sports venues have had no trouble with homeless shelters and the like.
But it sure is suspicious.

The Pohlads have enough money to donate and build a new homeless shelter for Mary if they want her to move. If they donated money and now they are the ones complaining it sounds like the donation was a cover for what was to come. I am sure they are not real comfortable with the stadium so close. Then move the shelter, there are plenty of buildings in and around the city that would work as well if not better. Mary has nothing in her heart but compassion for the down under. She doesn't question their motives for being in the situation they're in. She just tries to counsel them as she can, direct them to the help they need and provide a place for a hot meal and a shower if needed. If each of us would show 1/10th the compassion she does, the homeless would not be such a problem for us to complain about. Everyone can help in some way. Before you condemn all the people who use her shelter, spend some time serving meals there, or help her in some way and see the actual homeless victims of Minneapolis. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

The drugs and booze are part of the homeless experiences. It is in ALL shelters. The Salvation Army manages to dodge the issue by kicking the "wretched refuse" out early in the day. However they breeze in & out of Mary's Jos during the day.
If drugs & booze were the issue, then all the shelters would be shut down.
So figure a Iago here. Pohlad is a prime suspect. That disgruntled security oficer at Mary Jos is an insider suspect. He was one of the whistle blowers.
I've seen this dude around town.
