"Render to Caesar what is Caesar's" was a statement to pay your taxes, even to an occupying country. THe same applies now - render unto the US Government what is the US government's.
Correct, the statement addressed payment of taxes to Rome, an occupier of the Jerusalem. We,however, live in a free society(not enslaved) and are allowed to exploit our talents to their fullest and should be able to keep the majority of what we make versus handing it over to the Government for redistribution. Taxes, paid by all, is a great concept. Redistribution of wealth has been tried and failed. Are you proposing we try it again?

Earlier in his homily, the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics decried "hotbeds of tension and conflict caused by growing instances of inequality between rich and poor".

He also denounced "the prevalence of a selfish and individualistic mindset which also finds expression in an unregulated capitalism, various forms of terrorism and criminality".

Actually it is not. It was a declaration to let the governments of man deal with earthly maters and let the Church deal with spiritual matters. If you had knowledge of the bible you would know that this was an attempt to trick Jesus in a catch 22 where he either defied Rome (and would be killed) or he supported Rome and could be discredited. The issue brought up was if it was religiously allowed to pay tribute to the living god Caesar as he demanded.
The question was whether Jews should pay taxes to Rome.

And the answer was "Yes".

Depends on exactly what you mean by "redistribution of wealth".

I'm in favor of a progressive tax structure and a safety net for the less fortunate.

I'm not in favor of a "one size fits all" philosophy where everyone earns the same.

Why don't you see if you can work a few more lies in. Maybe more Muslim references?

Obama is doing what the American people gave him a mandate to do. You lost, big time. America doesn't believe in your silly lies, which actually HELPED Obama and the Democrats win.

What is "less fortunate?" the woman with 10 kids by 5 different fathers? the family that takes the Mega bus from Chicago to St Paul every month to pick up their EBT card? Those with or without cell phones? 52 inch flat screens? Are there those who need help? Yep, lets take care of them, the others made bad decisions and while it sounds cruel, there are consequences for those decisions. You can make all kinds of excuses for them, Democrats are good at excuses, but the fact is, they made bad choices or followed the wrong crowd and now they need to suffer the consequences or rejoin society by getting back in the workforce or school or whatever.
And I think you are one of those who thinks everyone should "earn" the same! you just don't think everyone should have to pay the same and right now, they don't!

51% vs. 47.6% is hardly "big time" and "mandate". Over reach again, see how the mid term elections run this time.

No, Mr Obama is doing exactly what the film 2016 indicated he would do, based on his family origins and up bringing. He believes in the Marxist/Lenin/Stalin philosophy of all for one and one for all and that will become more clear as taxes will continue to climb more and more for more and more over the next 4 years. Sam Levin from Michigan said so, his advisors said so and you and your precious middle class will bear the brunt of it. The wealthy can move or retire, the middle class are the only ones who can sustain the avalanche of taxes you will soon see. "you can't cut your way to prosperty" Mr Obama

No it was not. The question asked was if it was legal to pay taxes to Caesar under Jewish law and if they then should then pay those taxes, but the answer was to follow the rules of man in this world. He has used that theme many times in the bible.

I have noticed that the left likes to quote the bible without understanding the quotes. Before Jesus said the Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s he first called them hypocrites and then asked them to produce a coin which would be used to pay this tribute. He called them hypocrites because they were already doing business with Caesar and using coin which was only valuable because Caesar said they were, but then asked if it was legal to pay him tribute.

P.S. Jesus never actually answered the question.
