The Vikings do not have a consitutional right to defeat the Bearts, only a statutory right, therefore the Vikings cannot win

Vikings: Jared Allen wants to change losing streak at Soldier Field
On Monday night. while the Vikings were serving up meals at their annual Taste of the Vikings fundraiser, their next opponent, the Chicago Bears were serving up sacks, picks and points in a 32-7 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.

Bears QB Jason Campbell filled in for the injured Jay Cutler (concussion) and struggled in the game, but if Cutler is cleared to play again, Campbell won't likely be playing on Sunday when the Vikings travel to Chicago.

But for Vikings DE Jared Allen, it doesn't matter either way.

“Whoever it is, we have to straighten out the run (defense),” Allen said.“We can't allow what has happened in years past to happen again. The first half [always] seems to be a blitzkrieg of crap not going our way. And we scratch our way back into it in the second half and we give up another big play to put it out of reach.”

It has been a struggle for the Vikings in Chicago in recent years. The Vikings have won just one game in in the past 11 trips to the Windy City -- and that took a Herculean effort by RB Adrian Peterson (224 yards rushing in his rookie season) and a last-second 55-yard field by K Ryan Longwell to do it. Allen recalls the Vikings' futility in Chicago, but he can't put his finger on the reason for it.

“I don't know [what the problem is],” he said.“I haven't won there. They're obviously a good team and they play extremely well there. I don't know if it's … honestly I don't know. I think the last time we won there was 2007, and I wasn't even [on the team].”

Allen was asked if the suspect turf in Soldier Field is a problem, and he said that both teams have to play on it. He instead explained it's more a matter of the Vikings' execution.

“We have to be consistent,” he said.“We have to go there and stop the run. We can't allow them to run. We have to really get back to our Ps and Qs and tackle the football and play.”

Allen recognizes the importance of Sunday's game. With the Bear's loss on Monday, the Packers and Bears are tied for first place in the NFC North and the Vikings trail by only a game. The coming stretch of four division games in the remaining six is huge for the Vikings.

“We got six games to get as many wins as we can get to get us into the playoffs -- and it starts with Chicago,” Allen said.“And it happens to be in our division, happens to be on the road, happens to be a place where we haven't played well.

"So we have to get our minds right and there has to be a sense of urgency, and this game is as big as it gets this week. Might as well be the Super Bowl for this week. Then we'll move on to next week.”

AP Pro32 comments about Vikings

MINNESOTA VIKINGS (14)

Chris Berman (ESPN, 16)- Bye week a good thing. Remaining schedule is not.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 14)- To make playoffs, Christian Ponder must become more consistent.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 14)- Overachievers the first half of the season, can they keep it going with two games against Packers in December?

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 16)- Vikings come off bye with chance to take a huge step in the division. A win over Chicago, and they're in business. Looks like they might have to face Jay Cutler, though. Not easy with Bears in bounce-back mode after San Francisco embarrassment.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 13)- The Giants, Titans, Seahawks and Vikings all return from bye weeks - the final byes of the NFL season. Minnesota is the best of the four coming off byes with a 17-6 record. The Vikings play at Chicago Sunday.

Clark Judge ( CBSSports.com , 15)- When I look at the rest of the Vikings' games I keep hearing the same words over and over: Look out below.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 15)- Still much to prove on the road to the NFC's No. 6 playoff seed.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 15)- On a bye last week and a chance to rest AP, who is running better than ever. Christian Ponder needs to be more consistent if they want to make the playoffs.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 14)- Can QB Christian Ponder uphold his end of the bargain? He did last week and if he can do it, the Vikes are a good team. If not, on to next season.

Alex Marvez ( Foxsports.com , 17)- How the Vikings fare the next three weeks against Chicago (twice) and Green Bay will determine Minnesota's postseason viability.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 13)- Season starts now: at Bears, at Packers, and then Bears at home.

Yes, but the 49ers are good. And the Vikings do not like to play outside where it is cold and windy. The Vikings had a week off and we all know they like to party.

-Jay Cutler may not play, Campbell is not that good
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000009857...

-Chicago O line is horrible (Viking pass rush)
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000009870...

-Bears aren't competitive without Cutler. Although Cutler will probably start. If Cutler does play, he is just one hit away from lala land again. I also would expect the betting line to move based on the injury reports. The Vikings however are much more healthy and are coming off a BYE (2 weeks to prepare for a game; they lose season may be over for Minnesota). AP will kill as he usually does at Soldier Field, D' line will kill chicago's O line Minnesota will Score more against a D that is banged up with a weak secondary.
