What a terrible tragedy. I cannot imagine what this family is going through. And on Mother's Day weekend. I am so sorry for their loss.

Authorities in Louisa County say they will wait for blood-test results before they decide whether to place charges in Saturday's death of a 2-year-old girl.

The authorities are conducting the routine tests to check whether any substances were in the system of a 19-year-old woman who police say drove over a girl in the 500 block of Thacker Road.

The child was flown to University of Virginia Medical Center, where she died. Authorities said they were waiting to identify the child or anyone else involved, out of sensitivity to the family.

"We're trying to give them some privacy," said Maj. Donald A. Lowe of the Louisa Sheriff's Office. "When it comes to an infant, it's really devastating to the family."

The 19-year-old woman had been visiting the home of the child and her mother Saturday. The 19-year-old had a four-wheel-drive vehicle with manual transmission but was uncomfortable driving it, Lowe said.

The woman asked the child's mother to turn the vehicle around in the driveway, Lowe said. The mother put the child inside her home and turned the vehicle around. When the 19-year-old started to pull away, the girl ran in front of the vehicle and was run over, Lowe said.

The mother "recalls seeing a flash of pink in the corner of her eye" as her daughter ran by, Lowe said. "Before she could react, it happened."

More to come I'm sure.....
