I bet your neighbor didnt think the party was free.
You are right didnt cost you a dime but it did cost someone.
I dont like country music and had no idea who Alan Jackson even was a few months ago.
Why should I have to pay for you ( my tax dollars) to go to a concert ?
The Town and County Officials had the chance to say no to the concert, there is your asterisk.

My neighbor didn't balk at the cost at all, didn't ask anyone to bring anything, and didn't advertise it as being 'free' like Alan Jackson did. I have done the same.

Tax dollars should have nothing to do with it, since it should be paid for by the performer and his promoters, the same ones who ran the contest and advertised it as a 'free concert'.

There was no asterisk evident anywhere in the promotion stating the town would bear the burden of paying for the show, and that those costs would be passed on for admission.

Why is there so much complaining? Any Money raised (not including the overhead cost's) will go back to the community and is that not what this is about? Nothing in life is ever really "Free" so get over it and either pay for a ticket or dont attend.

Definition of free: not costing or charging anything (google it)

Here are a few more free things:
You speaking your mind on topix, and the air allowing you to live to post it.

I will agree that this concert will have costs, however it was billed as a free one, thus the assumption there would be no costs to attendees, just the promoters and performer who pimped the contest.

The free tickets should go to black people to encourage them to listen to good country music instead of that foul mouthed disgusting noise they listen to.

My neighbor just threw a free party. Didn't cost me anything.
I recently attended a free concert at UVA. My taxes, in part, paid for the construction of the concert hall and it's continuing operation.
I've been to dozens of free performances, in all types of venues, amateur and professional performers.
My taxes pay for the high school parking lot (horrible choice by the way, but the asphalt doesn't cost the performer anything) where they will set up.
There wasn't an asterisk in all the hype leading up to this 'free show', so the performer and/or it's promoter should pick up all costs associated with it.
where's the free health care the prez promised us?

Back for more, eh?
He actually wants more people to pay for insurance so it lowers the cost of health care, but you are going to have to ask Republicans and their Supreme Court where it is.
