Matt (or whomever) should learn how to spell "shudder" - as opposed to "shutter."

I was one of the parents that rushed to Thomas Jefferson yesterday to pick up my first grader. I was extremely relieved to pull up to the school and be reassured that all students were safe and accounted for. While the process was very slow, the teachers and administration made sure all of the students were walked out individually to their parents. While it was rather chaotic and very clear that Louisa is not accustomed to dealing with these types of emergency situations, the school did a wonderful job. As a mother I am completed empathetic to those parents who were in a rush to see their kids, but was very appalled to see some of the rudeness that was displayed yesterday afternoon. I, for one, am deeply appreciative of the Thomas Jefferson staff.

Sudden communal stress brings out the best in most and the worst in a few; sounds as if you encountered some of the latter in the "rudeness". I'm glad that the schools and community as a whole did a commendable job taking care of folks.

Interested to know the extent of damage to TJES. I have heard reports that the epicenter was closer to that school than others.

They should have drilled and practiced for earthquakes, and had a system in place for parents to pick up kids quickly and effeciently. I had to wait almost 10 minutes. How arrogant of the school staff to think their time is more important than mine!

Maybe they should drill and practice for nuclear blasts too, or how about tornadoes?, maybe even a few terrorist attacks? while we're at it how about your average sun spot?
