A crash between a sedan and truck this afternoon killed the driver of the sedan.

A 1995 Ford Taurus was going north on state Route 648 in Louisa County when the driver failed to yield at a stop sign at U.S. 33, around 1:16 p.m., according to Virginia State Police.

The Taurus was struck by a 2003 Ford F-150 going west on U.S. 33. Both vehicles ran off the road and hit a fence.

The driver of the Taurus, Patricia P. Hart, 74, of Charlottesville, died at the scene, said state police spokesman Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar.
Two other passengers, Margaret P. Porterfield, 96, also of Charlottesville, and a 10-year-old girl were in the car and transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries.

Both adults were wearing their safety belts, and it was unknown whether the 10-year-old had a safety belt, Molnar said.

The driver of the F-150, Luanne G. Bragg, 39, of Bumpass, was transported by ambulance to Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville for injuries. She was wearing a safety belt as well.

I drove through the area around 6pm last night-the towing company had just loaded the p/u on a flat bed. The car that was hit was up an embankment, demolished. It is hard to believe anyone survived!

That particular crossroads need a flashing light-gheesh it's a heavily traveled area with a elementary school nearby no less!

I bet that poor older gal who failed to yield (in other words ran a stop sign) has traveled throught there before, she probably just wasn't paying attention. God rest her soul!!

My heart goes out to the driver of the p/u.

My thoughts go out to the driver of the pick-up truck. God bless her.
