Well if he is dead,
at least it was doing something he was drawn to,

If Fossett had the latest electronics, his GPS location and ID number would be auto transmitted. The plane would have a SART which responds to search radar and he would have been found in hours. This all depends on a survivable crash that isn't at the bottom of a canyon.I have read about the crash and burn theory as well. Those planes glide and engine failure is a survivable condition.
