Meijer in talks to open Detroit store

Meijer is in negotiations to open its first store in Detroit, at Woodward and Eight Mile next to the Michigan State Fairgrounds, to anchor the long-awaited Shoppes at Gateway Park development.

BS... there is a Meijer 4 miles down the road from this... oh and it may say Detroit on the map... but it is basically Ferndale... this does not offer anything to the people of Detroit just those on the fringe on Detroit.

Exactly what I was thinking. The location is on the edge of Detroit, making it a technical win for Detroit. Meanwhile, Detroiters still really have to drive to the burbs to go shopping at the big stores.
Host Angelo Henderson on WCHB always jokes about how theft by blacks drove the last K-Mart out of Detroit. Here's a black journalist, so called, mater-of-factly admitting that blacks steal retailers blind. Perhaps theft prevention methods are advanced enough to allow a Meijer's to survive or they will pass the costs on to the other stores and use the Detroit store as a PR ploy. The news of this store is not an indication of revival i Detroit.
I remember when the Meijer opened the Source Club stores, one across the street from the regular Meijer store in Westland. What were they thinking? It went broke almost immediately. So Meijer has a reputation of picking some bad locations.

Yeah the small businessmen (ie thugs who steal and sell for cheap) will love having a close source for their supplies...it helps to keep costs down!
