The degenerate reres that run that instiution are the scum of the Earth. So don't stop not even for our over priced gas($3.25) or a drink of our radioactive water. Actually most of the people who actually live in Hawthorne love it here. If the "Cap" is not your cup of tea most of the locals enjoy Maggies on D Street. Filtered and reverse osmosified water is available at Safeway for 35 cents a gallon and the pool opens in Lions Park Saturday. The girls win most of their basketball games and the movie theatre features free Saturday matinees and video game touraments on their big screen. Our library is one of the best in Nevada and roses do pretty well in our many gardens. We rarely have missing kids and they tend to have supportive parents. The towns new FM station proudly plays classical music 24/7 and also runs Hawthornelive.com that is a good place to find the Hawthorne that you apparently missed. Stop in and say hi the next time you're coming through and see why most of us wouldn't live anywhere else.

Hawthorne Nevada is one of the coolest towns that I visited last Christmas as I had a blast there. I hope that I would be able to become of the lucky ones to live there this summer aa it would beat living in the bay area and it's B.S. As in the previous comment, I too wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Hawthorne Nevada.

Stormy couldn't have been in the Hawthorne I have lived in for 40 years. Besides being the America's Patriotic Home, it is also America's safest town. I will admit we are overpriced on almost everything here but that comes with living in a small town which is why I shop in Reno a lot. And why is Stormy calling it "our" gas and "our" water?

I moved back to Hawthorne after being gone for ten years. I love the quiet, the mountains and the lake! I love the fact that I drove to the post office the other day and hit the green light on the one signal light in town and turned around and came back and hit the same green light again, can't beat that! The town has improved in many ways since I moved away. The streets are neater and cleaner. The business places are all mostly neat and clean, not to mention the many homes that have been updated, remodeled or built new. The huge American Flag is thrilling to watch during the day as well as at night when it is all lit up. All of this is thanks to a lot of hard working citizens and volunteers in America's Patriotic Home. Many new people have moved to town and they along with many of the town's residents take a lot of pride in their homes and the community. Hawthorne is good for the soul!

I lived in Hawthorne 50 years ago, and liked it. The friends I stay in contact with there wouldn't live anywhere else. If you think it is a tad remote now, imagine what it was like in the 50s. Stormy should be glad he wasn't in Tonapah. Hawthorne deserves a comeback, especially for those who have toughed it out during all these lean years.

Hi, I used to live and work in Hawthorne and it's not to bad of a place, but I like Beatty, Nv. too. We have the greatest sunsets I've ever saw, which I've posted 100's of them on the web. We have wild Buro's walking all over town and wild game in the Mts. If you like to gamble, Vegas is close by. Hi to Art, Carol, Marty and James.

Hello, your name sounds familar, I worked for the gov. and then DZB on base for Art Silva and Harold Fuller. Still know a few there like Bisiaux's, Murray's and Abram's. Liked Hawthorne, guess it's why I ended up in Beatty. Have a good one. Mr. Swaim.

If you didn't like the Cap, you should of stoped by Joe's Bar in the old days, Joe used a baseball bat on the rowdy people, that happen about 2:00 am. Was in the cap late at night , eating breakfast and some worker came by and sprayed roach spray around us, should of sued. Have a good day.

I returned to Hawthorne last summer after 20+ years away. It's hometown living to be sure. Good hometown living! Look for the bad in any town/city and you'll find it. Stay for the good, and the benefits of having Hawthorne as your hometown will far surpass any of the negative.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad time in hawthorne.Obviously you have never been here ha ha. Our Armed forces day celebrations are the best in the ole USA! It is not called America's patriotic home for nothing! maybe you should move to Mexico? Hawthorne has been doing military celebrations before there even was an armed forces day.(1949) we have been celebrating the unique contributions of our armed forces since 1938. I am proud to be one of the americans who are proud of our heritage since 1943. look me up the next time you are in town. most of the local people know who I am. I am the guy that raised $33,000.00 in less than four months to raise the big flag to honor our nation, and troops. By the way our population is about 3,300. Do the math, you can see why we are unique!

I too spent some time in Hawthorne. Although I didn't live in the town I was there often enough to think so. I lived a bit south of Hawthorne.
I remember the days of sitting in the back of pick ups and watching the parade go by. Then it was off to play baseball all day. Beer and baseball with all my friends...it didn't get any better.
All the people were happy to be around each other and even though we as young people gave some of the older generation a hard time we were still respectful of them.
As for the town itself....well you have to understand where you're at when you come across these types of places. The people in these towns still have respect for others and it shows when you're not such an ass. If the "El Cap" didn't impress you well fine...it doesn't me either but I spent many a day in this place and I have no regrets. As for Joe's......spagetti dinner on Thursday evening....Invitation only I'll never forget it ....

I hate to disagree, but I lived in Hawthorne and Babbitt for years and I wouldn't move back there for anything. It's quiet, sure, but it's too remote, there's no good food there (Maggies is blander than bland), the quality of produce at the local Safeway is terrible, and there's very little in the way of culture. I'm glad some people like it there, but it's not for everyone.

I just moved from cda, idaho to hawthorne and i love it here. I came here to visit and decided not to go back. Everyone is so friendly here and old fashioned people never hurt anyone. I dont want to live anywhere else. The prices are not exactly cheap but its not the only place in the world that is expensive. The people in this town make up for the cost. Im glad im here!

I have been here for almost 2 years. It is a great little town. Not too many places left where neighbors still help each other out. Where if your vehicle breaks, someone will loan you their's. Yes, somethings are expensive (have not figured out the gas prices yet) due to distance. But overall everything else makes up for that.

[The people I meet]

I am in Hawthorne weekly. I find all the people to be very friendly, but there always has to be an ass in every situation I guess for a balance of the scales. The lady that co-owns Maggies Debohra Bennett has a crappy attitude. I think she is feeling the current economics catching up to her. So look for a new owner soon Hawthorne your town would be a better place if visitors never had to meet a person like this witch.

I am Butch's little brother. I loved the 6 years we lived in Hawthorne, the evenings going to swim above "the Point", traipsing all over town, jumping into the sand off a billboard east of town. We would go all over on our bikes, from digging up old K-rations in the desert abandoned by the Marines, hiking up to the "clump of trees" on Mt. Grant's flank.. we were always safe. The town still honors those in uniform, and the American Flag.. It may be a bit tattered now, but still lively, and friendly.

Hi all.. My Wife and I are thinking about relocating to Hawthorne. I grew up in Los Angeles and live currently near Salinas, CA. I have to tell ya I'm sick of the whole Mexican Gang thing . Does Hawthorne have problem with that? How aggressive are the local police in dealing with these types of idiots? In my opinon a Militry response is needed in dealing with these people. I just want to live in a peaceful quit town. How's the hospital there? And what is the "Cap" as mentioned in previous posts? How's the lake are fishing boats allowed? Any good realators in town? California is an awful place to live, I can't wait to get out of here.
