I believe that it is the jail faught. If he told them he did not want them to touch him because he was on drugs that should have kept him on 24 hour observation at the hospital. Besides that point when they tazed him and he was unresponsive they should have performed CPR until the emergency team arrived. These people in the jail system do not always tell the truth. They say what the media and citizens want to here to try to cover the behinds. Are the any cameras before entering the booking room? Look back at those because it just don't make any sense. This was a young guy and did not deserve to have lost his life due to someone in jail jail system not following proper guidelines for a tazer, and drug active inmate

He was medically cleared prior to being booked.

First off, he did go to the hospital and the hospital released him in to LCDC custody. Maybe the hospital should not have released him knowing that he was under the influence. Secondly, how the hell are you supposed to process a prisoner without touching him. He rushed the detention officers without being touched.
I feel sorry for the families loss, but I also feel LCDC staff did what had to be done to protect themselves.

might want to check into the possibility that some of those "corrections officers" have had the chance to get their stories straight since Sutherland took his sweet time asking the state to investigate. That should've been the very FIRST thing done after being notified of the inmates death.....NOT a week AFTER the fact!

Being medically cleared at Mimbres Memorial hospital does not mean he did not have a medical problem . The Deming Hospital cannot treat on going or existing medical problems that need long term care. They do not have the room. By law they will stabilize some one but most generaly they have that person transferred to a facility who can offer long term care for on on going problem. Insurance is another issue and the Detention center does not pick up the tab, so with that in mind lots of people are cleared medically. They do not have beds for this type of medical condition. The hospital is for emergency treatment only. They will stabilize you but that is all they are required to do. They are not equiped to treat long term on going medical problems. That is why they send most people out to a bigger hospital. He should have been under medical supervision until he was not so hyped up. They make medication to help people like this guy. This whole thing is very sad for every one involved. I am glad there will be an investigation and I hope both sides are represented fairly.

From comments on this Forum, now and in the past, and from statements in the newspaper, it's been said Aparicio was given CPR when his heart stopped, by one of the guards I believe. He was over tazed when he got combative, some incidents weren't filmed because part of the altercation was out of range and not everything was captured on film, and some believe the hospital should have kept him in longer for further observation. Plus, twice now the newspaper states the mother has an attorney. I'm not pointing fingers, I wasn't present to see this, but it seems that now since Aparicio isn't here any longer to present his side, we'll pretty much have to go by what the guards will say, and maybe anything captured on the camera that may be presentable.

It does appear the story of Aparicio's passing certainly did take quite a bit of time to appear in the paper. The outcome of this whole scenario should be very interesting, this is quite a big story for such a small town.

You think it's the hospitals job to baby sit a meth head? Hospital workers have the right to be safe at work just like everyone else. Who do you think pays for inmates in a hospital? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. He has no one to blame but him self.

He was the one who chose the lifestyle of drugs and crime, knowing where it could lead. I agree with Dark Horse--He has no one to blame but himself.

You call them stupid, yet you can't spell! Your level of intelligence surely shows. I assume you're just another dirtbag, idiot gangbanger. Word of advice... Quit the gang, get an education, put the pipe down and learn to make your own decisions instead of following the lead of your idiot friends.
By the way, I got your OJO right here!

-No its not there job to babysit him & he wasn't no meth head! If you don't know what he was on, keep your comments to yourself. But the hospital was pretty damn stupid in there part to even release him to LCDC if they knew he wasn't in the right state of mind!!

-okay I think this is bs because prisons or jails have cameras everywhere to where they can see every movement that goes on in there. Honestly I think that cops don't give a crap whether the person dies or not, how many times have you heard of cops stopping fights inside the prison, none right? Exactly. But you're right my cousin isn't alive anymore to tell his side of the story. I think it was just wrong of them to beat him and taze him so many times, but guards are only gonna tell the paper what they want & not make themselves look bad. Haha some superheros they are right? Well I thinkk not they're nothing but PIGS when it comes to stories like this!!

Police and corrections officers are forced to deal with violent drunks and druggies on a daily basis, they have every right to defend themselves.

An inmate requesting "not to be touched" is RIDICULOUS.

If the guards performed CPR or not is unclear, but this would have been difficult for them to do since two of the three were injured in the attack.

In any event there is no one to blame but Aparicio, for a series of bad decisions that put his self into this situation.

N.M. taxpayers should not have to pay his bill and the family certainly should not benefit from his criminal behavior.

First, I'm sorry about your cousin, my condolences to you and the family. I only mentioned the cameras and what was, or was not, caught on it because it had been printed in the paper. I have no idea about where cameras are positioned, but do know most places have a lot of cameras throughout the detention center.

I'm sure you don't have a very high opinion of the guards in this place, but I'm sure they have a tough job when someone has been drinking or on drugs. Even your aunt said she'd mentioned to personnel at the detention center that he was on drugs and didn't want to be touched, so they had their hands full right from the get go, nevertheless, it was a tragic happening to someone so young. But as some of us have stated, he chose his lifestyle by using drugs, so only has himself to blame, but hope the truth comes out shortly.

First it said they had an internal investigation. This gave them plenty of time to cover up, clean up and make up what they wanted to say. Then the SP investigate. Most of them are likely friends of the other and will certainly go along with the cover. Some cops are honest, but not all, keep that in mind. Another victime of the Wa r on Drugs.

I just noticed in the obit section of this paper that Chris Aparicio was in there. Not once have I seen in any article that he had 2 very young children, ages 5 and 2. What a shame he didn't think about them when he chose to do drugs.

Personally I'm against drugs, especially legalizing them, because for a moment of pleasure they may bring you, often it turns into a lifetime of grief for someone else, as in this case.
