This is so great, they used the word FREE 13 times. They talked last year about charging. If they do decide to charge the attendance will be ZERO. The arts council gets money from the Lodgers tax so they don't need to whine about costs. The Money Hungry will ruin a good thing. This event is good for the community and for the business of Grant county. People who come here spend money on Hotels, actually eat out at local restaurants and shop at local stores.(unlike the tour of the Gila Crowd) If the Red Barn is running the beer Gardens then expect to pay $5.00 or over for a beer. Also expect the Cops to be out in force at the park. It's like there is one cop for every 10 people. You would think they would set up a booth and be more people friendly rather than act like prison guards.

The Blues fest has grown over the years and attracts a diverse population. Why not open a booth for law enforcement to, "meet and greet" new comers as well as local residents? What a great way to establish a relationship within our community and the people who come to join us for one week-end. It just might give all of us a new perspective about what "law enforcement" and what it means to "serve and protect".

Where does the "Tour of the Gila crowd" stay and eat? I used to work at a local hotel and ToG was one of our sold out weekends MONTHS in advance....and that was two years before Lance Armstrong had ever heard of Silver City. I had trouble getting into Billy's on Tuesday night the week of the race this year, partly due to the racing teams eating there. In fact, ToG fills up every hotel, motel, and bed and breakfast, and still plenty of riders rely on people putting them up in their own private homes. All of these events keep our local businesses going. Don't hate just because cycling isn't your "thing."

I'm one person who has met Faye McCalmont once or twice while visiting Silver City. I know her husband a little better. I just want to say that Silver City is FORTUNATE to have a woman like misses McCalmont and the entire team of the Arts Council working for the improvment of the Silver City area, benefiting the residents, and helping to make life more enjoyable for all. I say WELL DONE to them all !! Thanks for listening, I like your town, and it's people. Robert Brand

I think the "Arts Council" should consider something to do with the Hispanic Culture's as far as "FREE" events go!
