I have heard alot of rumors about how bad the drugs are in this school. Does anyone know where or who they are coming from?

the middle school is full of drugs. It's worse at the high school. i don't know where it is coming from, but i have been told that all the kids have to do is ask for them, and by the end of the day, they have them.

i am now homeschooling my youngest child. i went through h*ll with a couple of my older kids who went to milton middle and cabell midland, one is on the hard drugs, the other smokes pot. they are out of my house now, but i refuse to let that happen to my youngest child. if i were you, don't send your kids there. homeschool if at all possible.

all i hear when my kids come home is about pregnancies and whos having sex or who has drugs!
it is insane i have kids in midland and middleschool. it's everywhere
i try to moniter my kids on the computer not letting them have a facebook or my space and yet i find out that the teachers let them go online and chat or go on playlist instead of teaching. both my kids have a face book and my space curtosy of the teachers who are not supervising the kids usage or just don't care. there is so much drugs and sex in the schools and the admin just turns there head about it. how do you homeschool and what is the process to go abot it do you have to go through the b o e?

I have been at parties with some teachers and the way they act, it is hard to believe they are teachers. They look at teaching as a job and they don't see themselves as role models.

I have a child who goes to MMS and he is very involved with sports and is at school a lot, and I asked him if he knew or heard anything about drugs over there and his response was... " never heard anything or seen anything" I personally haven't heard a word and I know around 5 or more teachers I talk to on a daily basis, never heard a word. Not saying it's not, but I'm in the dark on this one. I pray it's not, that is terrible.

I have kids at Milton middle and am a very involved parent. I more concerned about the way girls throw themselves at the boys than the drugs. I personally haven't heard of it and talk to my kids daily about school and what goes on. I hear more about girls stalking boys than anything from my kids.

Very true! Do the parents not see this from their daughters. Once you lose your reputation, you'll never regain it. I've heard some parents promote it, too;( very sad.

you know, i was one of those parents who had my head in the sand. my kids would play dumb and act like there was nothing wrong. they would lie and deny anything was going on. i realised, too late, that those who play dumb are usually the ones who are using drugs. teachers will not tell you anything. back about 10 years ago when my older kids were in middle school, a special needs kid brought a loaded gun to milton middle. it was never let out to anyone that it happened. the only way i knew about it was from a good friend of mine who was a teacher there at the time. she now teaches at a another school. anyway, the law doesn't require the school to report such an incident, if it was done by a special needs kid.

as for homeschooling? it's a little late to start this year, but for next year, all you have to do is send a notice of intent to homeschool letter to the BOE, by august 1st. then later in the school year you either can have them tested, or do a portfolio evaluation, and send that in the the BOE by June 30th. you can go online to find all kinds of curriculum. some religious, like abeka, bob jones, or christian light education, or secular. there are many sources for finding curriculum. And no, you don't need a college education to teach the middle and high school levels.

If you are so certain that it is there, is it your child? If you know it is there then turn them in, save someone else's child.

i go to Milton Middle and it just really depends on who you hang out with.. I hang out with the people with out the drugs and the drama and i stay clean. I have a locker next to a supposed druggie and i am not to for sure. But if you "steer" your kids in the right direction, you kid will avoid the drugs.

If kids were raised right it wouldn't matter what their surroundings are. I am NOT saying schools shouldn't attempt to keep drugs out of schools b/c they absolutely should. However, a city with a drug problem has a school with a drug problem. No matter how hard you fight they will find their way in. Instead of blaming everyone else for your kids mistakes you should work at correcting them. This is what is wrong today, no one wants to take responsibility for raising their kids, they want someone else to do it.
