A man on a rampage fatally stabbed his 17-year-old sister, decapitated his 5-year-old sister during her birthday party and then headed toward his 9-year-old sister before officers shot him amid what their chief described as "a killing field." This story makes me so distraught. God bless those poor little girls, and their family. WHY is all I can think to ask, yet it doesnt cease to amaze me what a vicious world we live in.

i bet he was on some kind of anti-depressant. all these stories have been happening lately, gee i wonder why all of a sudden we're getting brutal knife attacks all the time in the state... it couldnt be because we've disarmed our populace and they dont have the right to protect themselves anymore... no thats not it. we might as well ban all bladed edges, then when we get stoning deaths we'll have to spend 5.5 trillion to have our state "de-rocked". then when people start stabbing people with pens and pencils... we'll outlaw writing!

its a sad case, it really is and nothing gets to me more than the death of a child... at her birthday party no less. this is probably the one reason why i'd like to see MA with a death penalty, as much as i'd like to limit state power there are just some individuals who can not be saved and just end up wasting tax payer dollars by keeping them cozy in a nice warm jail with with warm food and a nice blanket, some tv time and hell a free education!

Like the rogue criminal that uses a gun in a crime... you can't blame the gun and start going overboard on the gun-control stuff (and it's obvious you would agree with that). The same can be said of anti-depressants. There are millions of folks that are helped and DON'T HAVE psychotic episodes like this because of the success of medicine.

Anti-depressants are an easy target, because - surprise - a lot of psychos were on them and it's revealed after the fact...(the chimp ripping off the women's face must have been because of the PROZAC he just had!, etc.). Psychotics are psychotics and some get better with meds, some don't and some get worse. So the next step is blame the doctor. The majority of good doctors do not prescribe these agents "willy nilly" and the diagnosis of "bi-polar" vs. "depression" vs. "ADHD" vs. "Anxiety" vs....blah blah blah - is staggering.

It's easy to say "too many diagnosis" - we didn't have this stuff "back in my day..." Back in the day, we used to take poor schmucks and keep them in the "back of the class" and refer to them as "slow" and they would bag groceries at A&P their whole life. Today, many times through the help of good doctors, therapists and medicine you get these folks able to pull down a great (normal) living, great family, etc.

Like the gun issue, there is no easy answer when it comes to anti-depressants, but comments like "he was probably on something" is a throw-away comment like saying "if we had banned guns, the guy wouldn't have shot someone..."

I was sickened to read this today. What makes someone do such a thing. Like the Nursing home in NC yesterday where a gunman shot down 8 people for no reason.
Again I ask WHY?

Unfortunately Dbone, doctors do prescribe those antidepressants "willy nilly".
My heart aches for that family, especially the mother who just lost three of her children.

i never said that if we banned anti-depressants this wouldnt have happened. but if you look at the number of psychotics out there who have committed horrible acts over the last say 20 years, they've mostly been on some kind of serotonin uptake inhibitor. cho, the kids from columbine, etc, etc, etc... how can you trust a drug made to fight depression when the side effects of these drugs include and are not limited to "depression, suicidal thoughts, and mood swings"? not to mention the majority of money in big pharma doesnt go towards R&D to make sure the drug is safe, 70% of the funding goes towards marketing and promotionals for doctors.
