The boy who fell from an airplanes wheel cavity

There are 3 comments on the www.salon.com story from Dec 13, 2010, titled The boy who fell from an airplanes wheel cavity. In it, www.salon.com reports that:

A Life magazine photo from the 1970s of a 14-year-old boy dropping from the gear bay of a Japan Air Lines DC-8 seconds after takeoff from Sydney, Australia. This is similar to a recent incident in nc, US., in november where a 16 year old boy who also hid in the wheel cavity of a boston bound US airways 737, died after falling at 2000 feet whilst over milton, Mass., as the plane descended for landing.

<<<Can I ask why we are we unable to discuss anything anymore, particularly when that anything involves airplanes, without running it first through the prism of terrorism? This is not an airport security scandal. It's a story about a young kid who managed to foolishly kill himself.>>>
First of all, it does demonstrate a HUGE breach in airport security. No one should be able to get anywhere near a plane who has no business being near it. It's probably worth saying we don't background check thoroughly enough airline maintenance employees, baggage handlers, and mechanics. Any one of them could be the next terrorist-du-jour.
But for a teenager to find access onto a commercial plane should be unthinkable - for his own safety as well as those of the passengers. What if his body had somehow gotten wedged into the landing gear and the tires weren't able to fully deploy? Would you want YOUR loved ones on that plane as it makes a belly-landing?
I'll agree that our national security agencies focus a bit too much on airplanes. Anyone bent on terrorism could create a whole lot of terror with a truck load of gasoline or a machine gun and a strategic location at a crowded sporting event.
If a terrorist wishes to do damage they will, period. They will find a way.
But it does seem rather ridiculous that security will grope and x-ray passengers all the while a teenage boy is able to meander his way onto the tarmac unnoticed and climb up into the wheel well of a jet liner.

If a stinking teenager can access the landing gear well undetected, just think what terrorists will be looking into soon.

The boy didn't fall from the wheel well, he was pushed out by a racist wheel. It's always the blacks that fall out of airliner wheel wells, all the time. When will they figure out that the wheel well is the killer of blacks that go in there to ride the plane?
