Unfortunately, the jury award means next to nothing because like 99.99% of pit bull owners, this one didn't have the proverbial pot!

It is becoming increasingly evident that people cannot control or contain these 4-legged sharks. The type people who own them are of the lowest socioeconomic level, usually rent and even when they own a shack, they usually don't have homeowners insurance that will cover pit bull-type dogs.

Last year in the US, pit bull-type dogs (which it is estimated make up no more than 5% of the dog population) were responsible for almost 75% of the dog attacks resulting in death, and 100% of the attacks resulting in dismemberment and scalping. These dogs are bred to attack without warning, and rip, tear, shake and hang on until their victim stops moving. These tendencies are as much a part of their genetic makeup as the color of their fur and their ugly little demonic eyes. No one needs, or should be allowed to own, an animal with the potential and inclination to literally rip an adult human being apart in less than 10 minutes and that's what pit bulls are capable of doing -- and often do!

You are by far the most uneducated person I have ever seen! If you actually did your research, the dog breed itself is in fact NOT vicious! There is not a "vicious" breed at all. It is the owner that makes a dog vicious. I have a newborn child that my pit loves more than life itself and is just as much a part of the family as my little boy. You are racist towards animals and all I have to say is that I would pray for you, but then again why would I pray for a senseless, uneducated animal killing monster?

Pits have an inherent propensity to attack and maul for no reason. You have in your house a ticking time bomb with no hands on the clock. Maybe you will change your mind when you are standing in the hall while they wheel your child off to surgery. My son and a neighbor little girl were attacked by a "nice little member of a family that wouldn't harm a fly" that lived over a quarter of a mile away. Be sure your homeowner's insurance company knows the dog is there. An umbrella policy with at least a million in coverage would be a start. Scarred children standing in front of a judge and/or a jury is enough to convince the judge to make a large award. If you don't have enough coverage, a financial judgement will follow you and your credit when trying to make any purchases in the future until you pay it off in full. Cover your azz and your assets. By the way, do you have a plan and something handy in different parts of the house and yard to STOP an attack if your puppy decides to have a change of attitude? Do you carry something with you when you are away from home with it in case it breaks and attacks?

Unbelievable that people will actually call this breed harmless, and loving. Like stated by ThomasA, they are an inherent breed and will MAUL till death. In the Middle ages, these dogs were bread to attack farm animals (going for the neck) until the animal bleed out to death and had no further live nor movement. This is why a Pit Bull will trot around with the lifeless childs body hanging out the dogs mouth, and parade around until the dog feels its victim is completely dead.
Years ago, a pit bull attacked a 4yr old, and walked around with the child's dead body hanging out its mouth. It took several adult men to pry open the pit bulls mouth with a metal pipe and free the child. It was too late. The family was traveling cross country, had stopped at a motel outside of Denver. This wonderful family pet pit bull was chained near another rooms door. The child simply walked past holding mom's hand. Next door was a McDonalds where customers hearing the mothers screams ran out to help. The childs heart was even punctured. Many States outlawed Pit Bulls for years and they still should.

Clearly you people are mimicking what ever nonsense you've heard, it all clearly being bad. I've owned pit bulls for nearly three decades and not one has ever sought to rush after a person,... except those that are in the yard, and thats only because of their protection conditioning. Well okay one came in that seemed to had been teased so much with his food that anyone reaching out a hand to get his bowl got a few vice grip claps up their legs, it was brought out of that conditioning by showing it I share with him, why he got to be so bad with me; eventually in the last 3 yrs of its life, getting his bowl was as easy ask asking him to go get it. I've taken in dogs that could not be managed, dogs that were given bad reputations, all in my care and not one has ever, ever tried to bite a human being. I've taken in many of dogs that would have other wise been shot used for fighting with mean streaks towards other dogs that were so vicious nothing with four legs could walk across them and not be attacked, and not once in any of their lives here with me,... with as much people walking thru my yard(cops, animal control, neighbors, etc) has any of the dogs ever took off after someone. I've since given up taking care of the breed only keeping a very prized slut that's been with me for some 8yrs now. If the dog attacked the lady like its being made out to be, I suspect provocation or conditioning, because all that "inherent badness" hog wash is bull pucky.

Ya'll are by far the stupidest people I've ever heard of. I love pitbulls and I will defend a pitbull ya need to stop talking s*** because it's not their fault they can't help the way they were raised everybody goes pitbulls a bad name because
of the simple fact that their muscle tones are bigger than a normal dog and people like to fight them because they're bigger and people like to eat in breed them so they can make a meaner and keep the blood line pure nobody really knows the truth about pit bulls for crying out loud a chihuahua can bite people too. right along with the cat but nobody's put that on the news. why I don't know but these ignorant people that want to fight pitbulls and talk bad about them to understand the background of a pitbull and their
owner. I for one love pitbulls and I always will and I will open the shelter to prove to all you ignorant and self centered and stuck up people that pit bulls are not bad is the owner.

Pit bulls are not mean its the owners make them mean. I had one come up to my face and lick me to death he was the sweetest dog. Anything with teeth will bite but pitbulls the owners make them mean because they want them to fight and I DON'T ALLOW THAT.

Hating an entire breed based on the actions of the minority is akin to hating a race based on the behavior of the minority. To claim all bully breed dogs are vicious death machines or "ticking bombs" is a terribly ignorant view, and to call for their eradication...well Hitler called for the same thing against a "breed" he didn't trust so what does that make you?

I have worked with dogs my whole life. I have been mauled by 2 of them: a doberman, and a chihuahua. Meanwhile I've associated with many Pitts over the years and not a one has ever come close to attacking me or anyone else in range. They were all raised in loving homes and were not inbred. The bottom line is that no one breed is any more inherently prone to violence than any other. The reason Pitts garner so much attention is because they are often raised in abusive situations (or inbred) which is the cause of violent behavior in ANY dog. That combined with the fact they are far stronger than a smaller dog leads to the misconception they're all killers. Bully breeds are not more likely to attack then other dogs, they just cause more damage than other dogs when they do.

You summed it up in your last sentence. When a pit goes into it's inherent attack mode for whatever unknown reason, they don't just bite and let go but rather hang on for the kill doing more damage that an owner cannot stop without a knife, gun, or large club. Most pit owners are not trained to handle these dogs much less know how to stop or break up an attack. If you insist on having this breed on your premises, have a gun , mace, baseball bat, an insurance umbrella policy, and a lawyer's phone number handy or you could wind up having your widdle bitty doggie RUIN your life.

Pitbulls are actually great companions even for kids. Golden retrievers are actually ranked in the top 5 for attacks especially on children. It's the owners who are immature and irresponsible. A breed shouldn't be blamed for what idiot owners do. There are terrible people in the world who murder, rape, and steal but not all human kind is considered murders rapists and thieves. So why blame one race, genus, or breed?

All dogs will bite when provoked but all dogs don't maul and do as much serious damage as the pits. All dogs don't have the inherent propensity to attack for no reason like pits. The time to understand that is NOT after an attack on your children or a neighbor. What is your plan for breaking up an attack if and when it happens? Does your insurance cover pits and does your insurance company even know you have one?
