You hear it everywhere from grade school on up. "Get out and vote....Exercise your right to vote.....Everyone should vote...etc".
I disagree. I think that only informed, serious people should vote. That's how it was in the early days of the country. You had to be a landowner, etc. If you go in the booth and make a decision without having done your homework on the candidates and issues, you are doing this country a disservice. An idiot vote is worse than no vote at all. I was talking to an old guy today. He said, "I voted today and I haven't missed a vote in 30 years". I said "who did you vote for for Superior Court judge?". He said he voted for someone, but couldn't remember. We would be better off if he would have stayed home on election day for the last 30 years. An idiot vote is worse than no vote. |

Did you ever think he was telling you in a polite way that it was none of your business, or is that where common sense comes in again. Why do you think they have them curtins on the voting booths, they're not shower stalls. |

There you go again. Spouting off without understanding the context of the conversation. Even if you had been there, you probably wouldn't -- but that is another matter.
It wasn't like I walked up to a stranger and said, "who did you vote for Judge?". We had a 10 minute conversation, and he wasn't shy about voicing his unsolicited opinions about Obama right on down to the school board, along with his bragging about his voting record. Given that context you do understand that my question was not nosy. He was a colorful gentlemen. I enjoyed the conversation, but it was obvious he didn't know jack about the Judge's race. I don't think he is a bad person for not knowing about the Judge's race. I do think he should not have voted for Judge. I don't think people should cast misinformed votes. Do you agree? |

I agree 100% and I'll even admit that there have been elections that I have voted in that I left certain spots on the card empty because I didn't know enough about the candidate(s) to cast a vote, so I didn't.

I agree,I have also not voted for certain ones on the ballot because I didn't know enough about them.I try to be informed but some of these judge races are hard to keep straight.

I too agree that you shouldn't vote for someone you know nothing about, But I also think it is no different then these party voters that vote the party and could care less who is on it. I noticed Milroy took the Idiot out of his second comment. |

Even though I said I agree with the original comment about not voting for someone you know nothing about, the other thing you mentioned that you had to be a landowner to be able to vote, even though I am a landowner,I would not want that election law. |

Lewistown Resident. We agree on something! Either we both are wrong, or both right.
Short history lesson which I trust you already know: As for only allowing only landowners the right to vote, that comes from the founding fathers, Jefferson and Madison (the primary Author of the Constitution) and the like. They were brilliant, far thinking men with uncommon sense. Yet they weren't perfect. They denied voting rights to poor people, negroes, women and renters and the indigent. Today, we allow practically ANYONE the right to vote: "reliefers", dope fiends, and even "idiots". Yes, at one time "idiots" were not allowed to vote. I have no problem with disallowing idiots the right to vote. Below is an actual law (still on the books I think) from New Mexico that speaks to this issue. CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO ADOPTED JANUARY 21, 1911 Article VII. Elective Franchise Section 1.[Qualifications of voters; absentee voting; school elections; registration.]Every citizen of the United States, who is over the age of twenty-one years, and has resided in New Mexico twelve months, in the county ninety days, and in the precinct in which he offers to vote thirty days, next preceding the election, except idiots, insane persons and persons convicted of a felonious or infamous crime unless restored to political rights, shall be qualified to vote at all elections for public officers. The legislature may enact laws providing for absentee voting by qualified electors. All school elections shall be held at different times from other elections. |

Judged:
1 You do not have to vote, it is not REQUIRED. It's an option, and I think they everyone should, if they do indeed what to feel that their opinion should be counted. |

Agreed, but is it worse to vote uninformed or not vote at all? |
|||
|
Definitely uninformed.

MCguy, Looks like you lose regradless of how you answer JunkE's question. He can't make up his mind. |

That's not what he said at all. uniformed means voting for someboby/something you know nothing about, didn't he say that is worse. No vote at all is better. |

Answering for somebody else as always LR...... Anyhow, I misunderstood his answer. I thought my initial question was which was better, not which was worse. In that case, I agree with MCguy, uniformed voting is worse than not voting at all. |

That's what he said. You might have been between making up your mind whether you wanted to comment under Milroy or JunkE and got confused. Your question was ,Which one was worse? His answer was uninformed was worse. Case closed, except you know what happens sometimes to OPENMINDED PEOPLE, their brains fall out. |

I just don't believe that JunkE and Milroy are the same person. I get accused of being Reedsville Remedy sometimes because we're friends, comment a lot alike. I don't even think that JunkE and Milroy comment all that much alike!?

AOL |
Why would anyone even think you two were the same person with these comments
|

I don't think so either. Although we agree on a lot of things JunkE generally has a more positive outlook than I do, and is more diplomatic. I tell it like it is without sugar coating and that sometimes rubs people the wrong way. Lewistown Resident is so paranoid that he can't see the difference. |
