I am glad to hear the lady wasn't seriously hurt. Maybe this was careless driving, but it makes you wonder because now that they have changed the laws, so many people just walk into the street without even looking to see if it is safe. They don't take responsibility for themselves. I was taught that the sidewalks are for people and the streets are for cars. I think changing the law so cars have to stop for pedestrians is just asking for trouble...and more people getting hurt. Many people...especially the younger ones...just walk right in front of cars, without realizing that is one big hunk of metal on wheels coming at them! Cars can't stop on a dime, you know! And then, some of the pedestrians are very obnoxious towards the drivers...flipping them off, or hollaring at them. Such a shame...but that seems to be the future. For myself, I will continue to stand on the sidewalk until I see that it is safe to cross the street. I won't take the chance that the person in an approaching car is able to stop in time. It's my life...I like it...and I'm going to take responsibility to see that it continues!
