I understand the need for Police to drive aggressively and take risks but shouldn't it be for something more threatening than unruly motorcyclists?
Were they waving guns at people or something?

Now here comes all the comments that the police shouldn't be doing their job, shouldn't chase anybody etc.All police should now go to their cars and sleep all day.

what about the motorcycles he was in pursuit after? they should be found and brought in as accesories to the accident. More people driving like idiots not having any consideration for anyone else.

So an innocent person dies, and the speeding motorcyclists get away...... How sad. My sympathy to the victim's family.

They do that 90% of time anyway so nothing would really change.

Sorry about the accident .

But Thanks for trying to get these Dangerous Crotch rocket idiots off the streets.

Ride your wheelies on some quiet section of road. 25A and the Expressway is not the place for your games.

You are making a bad name for all us LAw abiding Bikers.

10 - 1 it was the cops fault. These guys drive as though they own the road. Besides, who's going to give them a ticket. I almost took a hit broadside on Pulaski Road in Greenlawn when a speeding cop with no lights and siren came flying down the road. This cop will deny he did anything wrong and the other guy can't speak up for himself because he's dead.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Bad cops, chasing people. It's a shame that a person was killed, but why the heck didn't he/she stop when they heard a siren; could it be they weren't paying attention, radio too loud and didn't hear it, on cell phone and not minding the road? All citizens should hope the police aren't restrained from doing their job. As for the person who thinks the cop shouldn't have chased a poor bunch of speeding motorcyclists, you'd think differently if one of the bikers hit and killed someone or ran someone off the road. Keep your eyes on the big picture, folks. These tragedies happen because someone is breaking the law, and it's NOT the cops!

They should do their job. But there job does not include driving through an intersection like a lunatic and killing an innocent person. Don't get me wrong these A-holes that drive bikes over 100 miles an hour need to be locked up but some of these cops think its there right to drive just as fast and aggressive to catch them. There are other ways to go about it. No police car is going to catch one of those "rice rockets". So why chase them and endanger innocent people. What would you do if one of your loved ones were killed by a cop who was driving like a mad man to catch a criminal?

and how about if the motorcycles that were speeding caused accidents themselves which resulted in one or more deaths including their own

this couldve easily went the other way and one of those on the motorcycles couldve died along with an innocent driver

if your a cop you dont pick and choose what you want to respond too

It's collateral damage. Sometimes the police have to kill in order to protect.

Last year a man on a motorcycle almost hit me because he was on the wrong side of the road and then riding on the sidewalk. As I was looking in my rear view mirror I notice a cop pulling out of a parking lot that the bike was pulling into. The bike turned around and took off passing me once again and then driving on the wrong side of the road while always looking back to see were the cop car was. The cop stop perusing the bike after about a 30 second chase in what I think was fear that the man on the bike (with no helmet I might add) was going to hurt or kill himself or someone else. The cop made a judgement call that night that whatever the crime he was committing was not worth the chance of this guy or anyone else dying. This cop made a similar judgement call and unfortunately someone paid the price but I don't think we can blame him for just doing his job.

How would YOU feel if your father/brother/son/husband was killed by a speeding police car involved in a chase? There has to be better technology than to pursue at high speeds. In some cases, I'm sure it becomes a "let's get them at all costs" way of thinking by the cops. Condolences to the Beriganti Family.

yeah exactly, now people are going to comment on how SCPD acted "excessively"...but when they see a SCPD/ NCPD cop sitting around people complain hes not doing enough on the job

There is no doubt that all of the racing motorcyclists are quilty.
They should be brought in.
Not to would be an insult to the man and his family.
Oh by the way, ummm the police officer should consider his surroundings BUT I wasnt there.

I'm sure they found their way to down town PJ...A handful of residents have been "up in arms" over cyclists for a while now (just check out the Village Voices blog).
