While I do not condone the violence, I am very concerned with the school administration's attitude toward the alleged racist remarks. In another report, the superintendent is quoted as saying "kids will be kids" with regard to the remarks. I have worked in the Millburn Public Schools and RACISM against Blacks is ALIVE & WELL in Millburn NJ! I am not Black, but was so appalled by the underlying atmosphere of wealthy White entitlement that I dreaded going in each day. Put yourself in the position of a parent whose child goes to school (which should be a safe environment) to be denigrated for the color of his skin. To all the Jewish parents in Millburn: What if you lived in a town where you were in the vast minority, and your child came home to tell you he was called a "dirty Jew?" Again - I do not condone violence as an answer - Just open your minds.....

I go to this school number one. I am not jewish but I am white. Just liek everywhere else in the world there is racisim but that is not the point of this situation. Weather the person who initiated the fight was black or white it's about how they dealt with the situation. The kid is my friend and they attacked him for NO REASON and the dad is a reverand what kind of father teaches these kids to do that? I have a friend who is in millburn who is african american she is one of my good friends. She is nice and a good student and everyone loves her! it doesn't matter if he was black white or spanish the argument was over something stupid that had nothing to do with race in the first place and what if it was a white family who beat the other child up then what would people be saying? I saw the whole fight and there was another african american screaming and telling the father to stop what he was doing! it had nothing to do with race! it's about foolish and very un adult like behavior.

I agree with the marymary. There was a beating, which is wrong....But there were also racism allegations which was totally ignored by the superintendent. Need to at least commit to investigating both wrong doings.

The MHS student above is obviously a racist.

marymary i see you address is basking ridge antoher black getto in nj. if you are all about black power why don't you invite the good rev. george to move into your neighborhood . i'm sure the bernards township police would love to have a BLACK RASIST in their town, they know how to handle trouble with blacks there . look up an incident in bernardsville with a black boy named rabbit leaving a bar around the middle 70's. one more thing you didn't like going to work but i bet you liked the money and going to work in a school system where metal detecors were not required and walking to your car in the dark is not a problem . that brings about the short hills mall the enjoyment you get shopping there . you bleeding heart bitch . one more thing are there any blacks in basking ridge or is that another racist town in nj .

I am not surprised at all by this incident. I can easily imagine some kid being tormented so badly that he and his family are driven to this nutty retaliation. I do not think resorting to physical violence is the solution. But I agree with MaryMary and Concerned Citzen. The school administration dodges responsiblity for these types of incidents. They do not handle these types of incidents appropriately and therefore they escalate. So sad that they had to resort to this solution. I suspect that they felt they had no recourse. I know that kind of tormenting that could drive someone to react this way. Again not that its justifiable but certainly understandable.
