I lived in Nassau for 30 years and watched this perfect suburb turn into the 6th boro. And while Tommy boy isnt responsbile for the decay, he is most certainly responsible for doing nothing about it. Come to nassau, wheres theres a commerce bank on every corner, which gets robbed 3x a year. Highest taxes in the US, but Teddy Roosevelt used to live here so I supppose that makes it Miami Beach

leaving nassau soon wrote: <quoted text> Take it from somebody that knows,it does not get you anywhere complaining to politicians and County representatives (assessors office). The real estate values have gone in the sewer and your taxes which are based on home values are going up?? you question this and the assessors office tells you that the home value formulas used are from 2004 values!! How can you beat them?i have talked to,e-maile everybody and their grandmother in Nassau for the last five years about how they are raping the middle class here and all you get is BS!! When you can no longer afford it here you just leave. But you can't even get a decent price for your house now! We in Nassau are S CREWED!!! It never ceases to amaze me that people attack the County for the taxes going up in Nassau. The taxes go up because of the school district spending, not the County. The school district sets the tax levy, and you pay it in your taxes. County taxes are a small percentage of the whole, yet everyone blames Suozzi. I don't hear people complaining about the fact that the County finances are in better shape than they've been in 20-something years. Or how the county parks (the only county resource most of us use) are in better shape than ever. Just complain, complain, complain.

First of all,Suozzi is the county executive, second of all :he prides himself in being a dynamo. He is in charge of this state committee looking into lowering school taxes and all they could come up with is a 4% yearly cap! Thirdly, the assessors office is a county office, and they assess the value of your property. The assessed value of your home is relative to how much taxes you pay which includes school taxes!! I know that Suozzi is a phony and that he could give a S hit about the desperate situation! But don't pat yourself in the back when taxpayers in your county just want to escape Nassau.

By all means, go elsewhere, more for those of us who can enjoy clean water and fresh air without the need for a rich man's cage, and one less snooty snobby crank in the mix.

They're political hacks and shills on the GOP payroll, and they infest the comment boards attached to Newsday because it's one of the few papers in the country that still tells it like it is. This is the only place anywhere near Newsday that they can spew their Republitard propaganda. I'll never forget the sad, sorry messes Bar Beach and Christopher Morley Park became under Gulotta. It was heartbreaking and embarrassing. Thank GOD for Tom Suozzi. Now I can take my stepdaughter from Staten Island to a local park and not feel ashamed.

And you'll be late picking her up when your given a soberity test by the SS Highway patrol. Heir Suzzoi is a self glorifing tool. Why not take your step daughter to an Islander game, in the Leagues worst arena? Why not take her to Jones beach, and dodge some bullets?

Why should the Nassau County police be stopping drunk drivers? They should be letting them go free. And you're right about the Coliseum, which is why Wang, Rechler and Suozzi are trying to revitalize the area. And despite the heroin problem, this is the safest county of its size in the nation with some of the best schools in the nation with the best government services.

Then explain why I still can not take my daughter to Hempstead Harbor or Bar Beach and the water is more brown than ever before. Maybe because the great GC mayor dumped all his shit in it!

I have been trying to promote Nassau County for many, many years.
Before ANYONE else thought about it.
Nassau County is and can be what the residents want and MAKE it.
You don't BLAME and RELY on others.....
It is up to ALL the individuals to do something or complain. ---------- As simple as that....
---------- Tommy or not.

How did she see anything over the high weeds on parkway cloverleafs, parkways, county streets, etc.- that is a crime! Where are the county & town highway trucks that used to mow these areas - another department that gets paid for doing nothing - I've lived here for 50 years and watched a beautiful county become a MESS

I think all the naysayers should take a TOUR of Long Island.....There is some great sculpture to see.....
Touring Nassau or Long Island has NOTHING to do with politics.
If you are too shallow to notice the beauty around you...you wouldn't notice any where that you were.....
The places that we live have more to do with the people that inhabit them, than the government that oversees it. ---------- The places that we live are what WE make them.
Maybe you ALL should try learning how to take responsibility for what you do & how you live.
Notice........notice how great this area is. Stop trashing it.....it does NO ONE any good. And it makes YOU look really stupid.
GREAT things happen when people respect themselves and their environment.
Beauty is everywhere.....here's an example: ---------- Harborfields Public Library hosts a great outdoor/indoor sculpture exhibit every year.
The Long Island Professional Sculptors & Supporters (LIPSS.net) will exhibit their three-dimensional sculptures in the Library Gallery. In addition to the sculptures in the gallery, many of the artists will install works outdoors on the Library property, and those will remain on loan throughout the summer.
