Private sector unions always end up committing suicide for their industry.

Look at textiles, auto manufacturing, high tech assembly. Or in Hawaii look at sugar and pineapple and call centers. All sent out of Hawaii both because of the direct Union extortionists and the indirect results of a higher overall cost of business necessary to support the over paid HGEA, DOE and UHPA.(All overpaid relative to what equivalent private sector employees IN HAWAII are paid).

If the Management of Times had any brains at all, they would close the smaller Times on King Street and keep the Star location, bigger store, bigger parking lot and of course, the convenience of Bank of Hawaii. CVS should stay the hell out of this, they can't even take care of the existing Longs Drugs Employees, they've taken away so much already (I should know). The Moiliili community (including our students at the UOH), depending so much on this Star location. Shame on Times.

"Closing the smaller Times on King St." that is a good idea. Probably why no one in Times mgmt. thought of it.

How many times can Times lie and have local people fall for it? When Times acquired Star, the owner said "business as usual for employees and customers." Then I noted that one of the managers misspoke in the media and said they were acquiring "5 .. er, no, I mean 7 Star stores." No, folks, he really meant 5 because he knew all along they were selling two to CVS. Is this what Times calls "business as usual for employees and customers"? And how come a week ago when I talked to one of the employees, the person didn't even know if they would have jobs. You can't tell people whether they will be employed or not a week to 10 days out of closing? In my book that's called screwing people over for money ...

One more site of a Hawai'i memory will be gone.
I lived in Moili'ili in the late 1970s and shopped mostly at Star Supermarket, along with Everybody's on Kapiolani (also gone.) After moving to the Windward side, I still visited the King St. store.
What a wonderful location. I hope something nice replaces Star.

lived in moiliili for twenty years in the sixties and seventies. almost every store or shop from star market to kuhio school that i loved to visit are gone. moiliili grocery store, kuhio grill, university pharmacy, moilili mochi and candy, kalei's poi bowl, parks cafe, varsity bakery, micheal's liquor store, first hawaiian bank, varsity theatre, crack seed store where bubbies is now.....many more. only uyeda shoe store, kuni dry goods and fukuya deli still there. and now the mainstay of moiliili, star market going too. i still drive from the leeward side just to go to the garden shop there. of course don't forget chunkeys drive inn, bowl o drome, king's bakery and the old termite palace. whole neighborhood not the same as i remember them good old days...and no forget wigwam which only makules going remember...

Brudda you brought back many memories. Chunkies drive Inn across from the termite palace was my place to go grind. They had Pot roast plate lunch that broke da mouth. Man that area has really changed. You really didn't have to go far to bowl, eat, shop, or even go to the movies. I love reading about eras of areas that have slipped away. Thanks for reminding.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
