Tri-Valley strengthened by community support

No person or organization is an island, functioning only within itself, and Tri-Valley Developmental Services is strengthened because of the dedication to the organization shown by many individuals within the communities we serve.

In lieu of the proposed Woodson County Historic Courthouse Square Association, a new organization is forming called The O.W.L. Society to learn about and protect Our Woodson Legacy.

The ongoing goal of the organization is to document and share the historic legacy of Yates Center and Woodson County. The first goal is to start with meetings one day a week where we will read from the "In The Beginning" a series of 84 books written by Les Harding in the 1970s documenting the history of the settlement of Woodson County.

The first meeting will be held at the Delay Stadium on Friday evening on September 4, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm. It is an informal meeting and thus we may move to another location if it is too chilly ... that autumn air is cooling the evenings.

We want to thank the YC United Methodist Church for having a great movie in the park last Saturday. It was great fun with an entertaining movie "Race to Witch Mountain" about two teenage aliens that travel to earth to save it from destruction only to become victims of security measures by people who feared them.

At our first meeting we will initiate a committee to study the history of owls which is our organizational logo. For those that take The Audubon Society magazine, there is a great photo of an owl on the March 3, 2004 edition.

We are pleased to hear the Yates Center High School art class is planning to paint a mural on the Herring Building north of the YC Bank. It will have historic elements including the historic round barn that was destroyed. We look forward to watching the mural as it evolves.
