Senate Republican Blocks a Cost of Living Increase for Disabled Veterans

According to Sen. Patty Murray, an anonymous Senate Republican is blocking a cost of living increase for America’s disabled veterans.
A Republican senator is using an anonymous hold to block the traditionally bipartisan cost of living adjustment that is given to America’s disabled veterans and their survivors.
Sen. Patty Murray, Chairman of the Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee said in a statement,“This is stunning. Particularly because we still don’t have any indication why someone would block a cost-of-living adjustment for veterans and their surviving spouses, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. This adjustment for our disabled veterans is hard earned and well deserved. My hope is that whichever Senator has decided to hold up this bill will at least come forward to own up to it. That way we can move forward to overcome their opposition and get our veterans the support they need.”
The anonymous senator used an informal custom referred to as a hold, which allows any member of the Senate to stop legislation from coming to the floor for a vote by notifying and getting agreement from the party leadership for their intentions.
While it is one senator who requested the hold, Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republican leadership had to be notified of his intention to prevent a bill that would have provided a cost of living adjustment for disabled veterans, surviving spouses and children of members of our military who died while serving their country.
You may have thought that Republicans couldn’t get any lower than voting against creating jobs for vets, but they have hit a new low by anonymously blocking financial support for disabled veterans and the children and spouses of those who gave their lives for their country. The Senate Republican who put the hold on the bill is doing so for purely political reasons.
There is no good reason why disabled vets and surviving children and spouses should be denied a cost of living adjustment. The political reason is that Senate Republicans don’t want to give President Obama a “win” before the November election, so they have decided harm a group of people who have sacrificed for their country.
The Senate Republican leadership agreed with the anonymous request because they only care about defeating Obama. They don’t care about disabled veterans, and the families those who have died for their country left behind. For Senate Republicans, it’s all about politics. How can they hurt Obama? How can make America like Obama less? How can they make Obama look like a bad president? These questions have defined the congressional Republican course of action.
Instead of making Obama look bad, this Senate Republican has demonstrated to voters why the GOP shouldn’t be returned to the majority. To at least one senate Republican disabled vets and survivors’ benefits don’t matter to Senate Republicans. All that matters is defeating Barack Obama.
This Senate Republicans knows what he is doing is wrong. The senator who put the hold on the bill could have had his name entered into the public record by raising his objection on the Senate floor. Instead, this one coward has decided to hide behind a procedural rule while denying millions of veterans and their families a cost of living adjustment.
The Senate Republican who did this, and the leadership that is quietly standing behind him are cowards.

Check the videos on Youtube, there's a bunch now about the Obama Phone lady. The interviewer talked to several people "protesting" there. The dumbasses admitted on camera they were getting paid by the union, and they're not even union members, LOL. This is where the term "union scum" comes from. Some, not all, unions are 100% corrupt. Ever try voting your conscience in a union election where the ballots are not secret? LMFAO

– John F. Kennedy, Jan. 21, 1963, annual message to the Congress: "The Economic Report Of The President"
"Our tax system still siphons out of the private economy too large a share of personal and business purchasing power and reduces the incentive for risk, investment and effort – thereby aborting our recoveries and stifling our national growth rate."

Ari, while I admired JFK and have confidence in what he said, One has to remember that was a different time, with a totally different economy. It was a much more prosperous time for out Nation's economy, the Stock Market did NOT rule our economy, and there was NOT the Corporate Greed that we have now nor the Greed of the Wealthiest Citizens in our Country., and we were not living in a Global Economy.
Things are so different now, that I think what was true THEN does NOT apply today, in any way, nor can it be applied to the economic conditions of TODAY. Not only will it NOT work, it would finish destroying the progress that we have made, for the Average American. We were also, operating under a different Economic Theory back then, which was NOT the "Trickle Down" Theory that the Teapublicans want to keep in place so badly and will not let go of, even though the Architects of it have said publicly, that it does not work for the People under the 1%ers in financial wealth. You just simply can NOT go back in time, over 50 years, and expect what was true then and worked well, to be true today and work, at all. It's impossible!

While it may be true that times change; philosophy does not, it was a fact then and remains an economic truth now.

Water ran "downhill" 50 years ago...water still runs "downhill" in 2012. The current idea of "wealth envy" is not a philosophy; it is a distraction from real debate, the substantive debate leads to real answers to real problems. J.F.K. was and still is right about lowering taxes and the lasting economic effect...

There does not seem to be a desire from the Republicans to return to the tax rates that JFK would have approved. Romney and Ryan want to go one step further and return to the Gilded Age where the wealthy were really wealthy. Ryan has even been reported as favoring the wealthy paying less than 1% in taxes.

And while we are at it OT, please kindly point out to me where in the Bible does it list the actual 4-letter words that born again Christians should not say? Keeping in mind that the bible was written in Hebrew and these newfangled curse words are fairly new anglo-saxton invention. So knock it off with you small town pearl clutching. K? thanks. What an interesting bunch of quotes. Too bad you forgot to mention the top tax rates at that time in the USA. Don't you think those who read these quotes should have that information to see if the situation compares to today ? NO, I didn't think so BECAUSE the top tax rate in the USA at THAT time was .....drum roll please.....91% that is NINETY ONE PERCENT.
The top rate now ? less than 35%.
If lowering rates was the panacea that Kennedy thought they were, the tax coffers of the USA should be packed to overflowing. Cutting taxes to increase revenues have long ago reached the point of diminishing returns.
