These articles amaze me. Nothing like telling the world Milan, MO knows it's full of illegals! Jobs Americans WILL do if paid an honest days pay for an honest days' work! Let the raid commence!

I dare anyone who claims Americans will not do certain jobs to figure out at minimum what someone would have to make to be able to live modestly in your areas.

Rent or mortgage on a small place (say under 2000 square feet which is not all that large).

Food per week (for a single person this should be about $100-$150 if I can feed a family of four on $250 a week or less...)

Taxes.

Commuting by public transport to work if possible

Car costs if you have to drive to work or to public transport.

Needed utilities (NOT including cable - only gas/electric/water/oil/propane , etc)

Clothes from a non-boutique store.

Then look at what the businesses are paying and tell me if a single person can live alone on this without roommates. The more people you shove into a property, the less they have to pay in bills so the less a company can pay them.

A frugal person could live on approx $35,000 where I am.

If you watch "Dirty Jobs" there are plenty of US citizens working dirty jobs - but I'll bet they are getting paid a fairer wage.

If someone is making 6.50 an hour, that is about 260 a week or 13,520 a year for a 40 hour work week.

15.00 is 600 a week or 31,200 a year.

When we look at what is costs to live modestly in an area and what people are actually being paid, it is eye opening.

This is what the liberals who insist that only illegals will do these jobs so we need them do not want you to know and this is why so many immigrants - legal or nor - are cramming people into houses.

Pay a living wage and US citizens will take the jobs.

PS - my first house was about 884 square feet. I small bathroom on the first floor (fun at 2am in the winter) and five rooms (technically four and a room to small to be much else but a big closet or puny bed room - 6x9 feet).

My current house is 1552 square feet - it is considered a modest to small house in my area.

The homes being built now average over 3,000 square feet and up. Even the new townhomes are close to this size.

Just to give reference to my definition of modest house. A modest house in someone else's area may be 3,000 sq ft!

This is why we have to look at each area. Cost of living varies all over.

$30-$35,000 here is low income. We moved here making not much more than that and barely made ends meet for our first couple years. Now where a friend of mine lives, this is good, middle income pay. In other areas it is great, in others it is not.

When we moved to our area, we were average middle income. The cost of living has gone up so much in the past 11 years in my community it is scary!!! However, we could not move now to where other co-workers of my husband's live as we would be back to sqaure one, needing two full time salaries to survive.

So what works for one area cannot for another and vice versa.

This is why we need to factor what someone would have to make in various regions to be able to live modestly based on the different factors regionally.

you all are dunb , their are good and bad in all people. i live in this town , and if it wasnt for this company we would all have to drive 60 or 90 miles for a good job . But that company has so babd in it to.. buy not helpin with a new school they want to bring them here but are school is so small and needs to be torn down and a ne one needs to be built .. But the tight people in this town dont want to help i would be ashamed to tell any one were my child goes to school at .. This school is more worried about sports . The football field is nicer than the school . So it is every kind not just one sertin one so

The question is this, did you graduate from any school? Why does a new school need to be built, to accommodate the influx of illegals' children? It would be more beneficial to boot the work, entitlement and education thieves rather than to build a new school because of a group of kids illegals) who care nothing about education. They are only in school to get free meals and have a place to stay during the day.

one of the reasons we left Milan was because Illegal's were coming to town by the car loads and how PSF hasn't gotten caught is beyond me,If they got rid of them Milan might be a ghost town but the last time i was up ther i was walking from Caseys to my families home and i had several illegals yelling at me in Spanish made me feel very unconfortable,and to this day it does,but just stop and think of the people that would have jobs in Milan if they got off of their butts and off welfare ,and went to work id bet for every illegal at PSF there is at least one american,cabable of working on welfare because they are too lazy to work.I used to ride around the square when i was dating my husband of 35 yrs and so did our friends there was nothing wrong with it but we didn't have to worry about crimes going on all the times either as we had a wonderfull policeman who died at a very young age that would tell the kids be on your best behavior or youll get into trouble tonight and we hardley ever had any trouble.Even when my kids were teens they would ride around the square and their friends would go the opposite way and they see who would get to the other side first,it may sound stupid but my kids never have done drugs and my kids don't drink ,they aren't perfect but they are full grown adults and never ever been in trouble with the law,so if riding around the square helped them be good adults im glad they did that.Also the kids that my husband and i grew up with their was just a few into drugs but they are no longer alive but the rest of us are good law abiding citizens ,we get to gether for our class reunions and we always talk about driving around the square and how now the kids don't do that and of all the places that are gone,One of our favorite places was Baldwins Drug store they had the best phosphates in the world with the little bistro chairs and all, now look at milan and see what is there for the kids nothing.When we were growing up we even had a youth club where we would sponsor dances and parties and had fun now there is nothing in Milan,UNless your kids go to the bars and play pool ther is nothing.Remember the Wildcat INN it was Awesome fun for the kids,but the last time i was in Milan i think it was another bar,great place for kids huh.Remeber A&P grocery store and Pooles clothing ,Hy Klass grocery stores ,there was some good things to remember about Milan bet the citizens of MIlan now can't say that.So if you want to put Milan down now well the people are the ones that made it the way it is now not the past kids, what happened tothe field trips and the senior trips and everything to many kids causing trouble so they were stopped.That is the parents fault not ours (past Citizens Of Milan.i bought my wedding dress at Pooles ,and until a few yrs ago still had it so Milan wasn't that bad in the past.

Milan has never been a town trying to move ahead. The old school in Milan have never looked ahead in trying to better the community. There isn't even a Chamber of Commerce! No one seems to care that this small town is in the dumps! Even the local newspaper, which should be trying to move this small community ahead, does nothing to excite its citizens about what this small town can be! Very sad.
