Ah yes, it brings to mind the words of our lord Jesus Christ, "You will know them by their fruit". And how will we pay for this "fruit" of our borough masters? More tickets? More fines? More late fees? And maybe even add more police officers to increase the income for the borough.
What about a public recreation center for the children in Mifflinburg, wouldn't that be a more desirable fruit for the picking?
I say move back into the old borough building. It's safe now, right? Also, who's responsible for the exaggerated nonsense of it needing to be condemned in the first place? It was easily repaired. This is deceitfulness for the sake of materialistic gain. The borough got someone to say it was unsafe and must be condemned.
Why must we all be lied to and manipulated so a couple of over-paid managers and police officers can give themselves a big new building? Maybe downsize the police and we won't need a big fancy new building to house them all.

Actually, Dave Gutelius was the one who paid to have an "independent" specialist come in and condemn the building.

That's what the Mayor is for, right? He helps the borough managers get what they want. I wonder how Mayor Cooney is helping them get their 1.5 million dollar palace?

The mayor cannot make those decisions without council approval. He did it out of his own pocket and behind their backs. A few months later he resigned since the council decided to "not play ball with him". He then took his ball and went home. Cooney is basically one of those "yes" men. If the borough council wants something, wasteful or not, he does it.

You can bet if the Mifflinburg public had no problem with the idea of demolition of the beautiful old borough building, then the borough managers and council would have claimed the idea as their own. Finding a way to condemn the building was deceitful. And it was done off record with manager's knowledge, and most likely, approval. In my opinion, the borough managers and council used Mayor Gutelius as their fall guy. That's why he resigned. They used him for his connections to gain a condemnation. But when it backfired, they claimed he was independent in his actions. I find that very hard to believe.
We really have to ask WHO is behind all of this deceitfulness? Why and how are these borough managers and council allowed to focus so much attention, and spend so much money on themselves? We are not here for them, they are here for us. And I think they've proved it's all about them. The borough managers and council have too many cops for the sake of keeping us intimidated and quiet. Notice how the Mifflinburg News and Views is always reminding us of ordinances that need to be obeyed? What kind of "newspaper" is that?
It's time to start watching these self-serving officials, even though they want us to feel that we are the ones that need watching. Let's get the state and the Feds involved.

In my humble opinion, the cops and the borough managers in Mifflinburg are self-important and self-centered bullies.

Shouldn't the citizens of Mifflinburg request that the money spent on renting the old Yorktowne Cabinet building be given back to us? Since we were led to believe the old borough office was "uninhabitable", then the rent paid to Yorktowne for this long has been unnecessary. Anyone know what that totals?

Mifflinburg needs so much more than a 1.5 million dollar borough and police complex. What about the people of Mifflinburg? What about something for them? The town council memebers, the cops, and the borough managers just thumbed their noses at the people of Mifflinburg when they passed this one. The so-called mayor, David Cooney is only serving the cops and the wealthy. This kind of politics is spineless. And the new building is a monument and testament to the fact that Mifflinburg really is a Police State.

Look like things are just not getting any better in Mifflinburg...thank God I moved outta that town...Cops are bullies and the town is a mess as far as wasteful spending....Listen, folks in Mifflinburg...band together and vote OUT all incumbants when it comes to borough council and get that mayor outta there too....Your borough council is what runs your town. Not you mayor or you police department. Your police department reports to the mayor which in turm he reports to council. Get out there folks to those council meetings and let your voices be heard....Band together and go in numbers. You have the power as a citizen and voter to be heard...

Trouble is Mifflinburg can't keep a mayor. They either have a heart attack from the stress put on them, or they run for the hills like Gutelius did. Now there's David Cooney, and he's something straight out of George Orwell's book 1984. It's going to take the Feds to crack the wall of deception going on in Mifflinburg!

Mifflinburg does have a community recreation use building, the new addition in the Methodist Church is available and has many after school activities and program and a full gym. Plus a VERY reasonable rental fee for any special occasions.
I have seen the Mayor initiate based services, the Declaration reading, The pumpkin carving contest, the tree lighting to name a few.

I think that federal and state money is being used in an imbalanced manner by the Mifflinburg Borough. They are clearly taking care of themselves while driving up our taxes. The hard facts are that during this recession, we should probably be laying off some of the higher-paid borough employees, and some police officers. Instead, they're spending our money on themselves to create more things to oversee and thus, at our expense, give themselves job security.
Every community has churches and their activities for children. But that doesn't preclude the spending of public money on public recources for children.

Wow, I just can't believe how people run their police down and call them "bullies" instead of standing behind them, and supporting them.
Why do you think we have such an incredibly low crime rate here?
Police officers don't make you break the law (neither criminal nor traffic). You choose to INTENTIONALLY speed, fail to stop at a traffic control device, drive drunk, sell/possess drugs, etc., and they catch you.
The violator is the one in the wrong, not the police officer doing his/her job! If you don't want ticketed/arrested, obey the law!!
Amazes me how people are so quick to criticize the police- but even quicker to dial 911 for the police to respond when needed.
I, for one, respect and support our local officers, state officers and federal officers whom face danger on a daily basis to keep me/mine safe.

Explain that to the elderly gentleman who was taxed. He was sitting in his car waiting for his laundry to dry, minding his own, when the cop went bat shit crazy.

Well, if that elderly gentleman was sitting in his vehicle AND his vehicle was LEGALLY parked, AND he wasn't violating ANY law/ordinance AND that dang mean police officer violated ANY of his CIVIL rights, then he has one heck of a civil lawsuit against the officer, the chief, the mayor and the borough!
Somehow though, I doubt we'll hear of any such lawsuit, and, I doubt this happened quite as stated!

He settled out of court according to an article in the Aug 8, 2009 issue of the Daily Item.

Yes, I read the article.
It didn't say he was waiting on his laundry.
He had been there previously, scared some woman, and asked to leave, by the police.
Seems he returned, another night, acted suspiciously again, and, at the request of the property owner, ordered to leave, by the police.
Apparently, he was uncooperative with the police and, in my opinion, probably warranted getting Tazered.
