Can anyone in Midway, Georgia take money for or even borrow food without risking arrest? If you're in Midway, you'd better not let your neighbors reimburse you for any homemade food you cook or grow, or you might get busted for not having "a business license, peddler's permit, and food permit to set up shop, even on residential property." Heck, you ...

I would like to pay for the annual ($150) permit for the (3) girls that were shut down by the police for selling lemonade if you can arrange it. I live in California, but have friends in Atlanta. I was appalled to hear about the kids being shut down by the local police for not having a permit. It's nuts considering girl scouts and other kid's organizations can sell cookies etc... I like to promote and encourage kids to setup lemonade stands as a way of learning business skills and to earn money. I want to help these girls,

MONEY MONEY MONEY It's all about the damned MONEY that the Treasure's Office WANTS. Next thing you know the city council will pass a law to start charging the citizens a DAILY FEE to breathe the "city's owned air" too. And COMMON SENSE is something the Chief of Police does NOT have any of but he sure knows how to "throw his weight around" on those illegal lemonade money skimming little girls who are CHEATING the city out of money doesn't he? I'll be you money if it was a member of HIS family they would STILL be selling lemonade to this very day. MONEY GREED & POWER is all those people know anything about.

This is insanity! Who in the hell is responsible for this? Whoever the Chief of Police is he /she should be terminated immediately. You can bet if I'm ever in Georgia around Midway, I'll avoid that place like the plague.

You gotta be kidding. Must be really tough times in Georgia when cops got time to bust little girls. Good move, Morningstar, you must be a really tough cop, with a complex. Look out girls, here comes the law! How pathetic.

Solution to this problem would be to set up a stand and offer free lemonade. Put a tip or donation jar on the table. Technically, they would not be selling anything. Most people would tip or donate to a kid trying to earn a few dollars. For the authorities to shut an operation like that down they would have to go after all sorts of donation type pancake breakfasts and other donation events around the state. I don't think a license is required if nothing is being "sold."

You folks have it all wrong: Now that the police chief has personally shut down the local chapter of the mafia, the citizens of Midway, Georgia can sleep at night, resting assured that their safety is paramount to the duties of the police chief and officers.
God help the United States since paranoia and idiotcy seem to have taken over.

To Duane from Al: Good point... Just imagine if they got the permits, they would have to have a health inspection, restrooms, building permit for the table and have to pay sales and income taxes and file a 1040... These people are idiots and the same people who expel kids from school for point their finger at each other and saying "Bang your dead"

Follow up to my last comments. So if one of the arguments from the police is that they can't be sure about or know who made the lemonade, does buying a city license tell them all they need to know? Can you give lemonade to friends? They may not know who made it. Can a mother give her kid a glass of lemonade without telling the city the recipe and verifying the person who made it? Where is the line drawn between who you can give a drink to and who you can't? Can you share a pitcher of lemonade with a stranger at a picnic or social gathering without a license? Can you go to a charity event and put money in the donation jar that just happens to be located next to the lemonade cooler? So many questions.....

I wouldn't bet the Girl Scouts can sell cookies in that town! Don't send the money to pay the fees. That helps the town. Send the kids to the water park.

midway georgia is definitely not on my travel map. It is amazing how stupid city officals can be. The police chief needs to be fired.
It is ironic that the city has a supposed attraction that includes the word "liberty" in it. Midway georgia has not concept of what liberty is.
