<quoted text>I've read the Bible, a good book, but not the only one in the library. If you want to believe that the Bible is telling you that such marriages are wrong, that would be between you and God, not our problem. You speak for the belief YOU chose, not one God has made you take, your reading of the Bible, not His fault. I'll bet you weren't aware of this, but there are many Christians who have read the same Bible you claim to have read and who have come to an entirely different conclusion as to what God wants. Sorry.
The bible is very clear that homosexuality is wrong. Christians are not perfect and you are correct you can take away from the bible what you want. However true believers continually grow and seek the truth with wisdom and discernment. And believe it or not they often do change their beliefs when they see the truth. Yes we are all sinners and christians would be the first to tell you they are sinners, which is why they seek the truth through the bible, not any book in the library written by a sinner.

Basing laws on a religion text is a theocracy. We live in a representative democracy. It is incumbent upon then majority that they do not infringe on the rights of minorities. We have slowly evolved as a society and we will continue to do so. Of course many will still fall back on their Bible arguments (which if you really read the Bible, "traditional marriage" arguments fall apart but that's a whole other story. See DEUTERONOMY 22:28 for just one of many examples.)

My point is, you live your life, let me live mine with the same rights & privileges as you have, and we'll leave each other alone and live happily ever after.

Is that too much to ask?

The bible also says you shouldn't eat pork and "an eye for an eye". Do you eat pork? Do you think a person should lose his hand if he/she steals? My point is, although I believe the Bible, I do some of the things it says not to do. I believe a lot of people are conflicted about a number of issues.
Wow!! You need to read the Bible...your "facts" are incorrect!

You are incorrect. If gays/lesbians thought it okay they wouldn't be fighting so hard to do away with traditional marriage. They want everyone's approval so they can justify their actions. So if you are thinking they just want the financial benefits of marriage you are wrong they could easily make a contract. They seek everyone's blessings on their behavior.
Frank, that is such a bunch of hooey.

If by "traditional marriage" you mean a male and female then it is entirely incorrect to say that anyone is trying to "do away" with it. No one has proposed changing anything about heterosexual marriage.

The "they" you refer to do not seek benefits so much as they seek equality under the law. I doubt many of them give a hoot whether you or anyone else "approves." The current situation produces inequality under the law and is unconstitutional.

And on a more general note, though it applies to Frank as well - the bible is a bunch of hooey. It's a nice bunch of traditional religious stuff not different from the kinds of religious tradition found in all cultures. You may believe it if you wish, but it provides absolutely no basis whatsoever for law in the U.S.A. As noted above, this is not a theocracy.

A lot of folk claim that about me, the strange thing is no one has ever actually proved it.

No one is trying to do away with "traditional marriage" dear, there will be no requirement that the only way one can exercise their right to marry is to marry someone of their same sex. That would be just as silly as requiring someone of their opposite sex in order to exercise their right to marry. "Traditional marriages" will still be an available option for those who want them.

I don't mind breaking this to you hon, you're approval is neither being sought nor is it required. Your word for the day is tolerance, you may want to look it up.
Frank wrote:

Sweetie, there is absolutely no need for us to jump through a bunch of legal hoops in hopes of securing our rights as a couple and folk like you having "issues" should not be allowed to stand in the way of our EQUAL treatment under the law.

I don't, we don't and you imagine people who "think" like you do are actually more relevant than you really are. "Bless" us, don't "bless" us, makes no difference.

No one is perfect.

And yet you still choose to believe your take on the Bible on this subject. kind of hard to see either wisdom or discernment in that.

Christianity and its adherents have changed their beliefs frequently, repeatedly and on a fairly regular basis for the last 2000 odd years.

If you read back to the beginning of your post, you told me that we were sinners first and FYI, the Bible, itself written by sinners.

It is one thing to know absolutely nothing about professional public opinion polling. It is quite another to actually come out and proclaim it.

I don't care but my friends sure do. Two of them are divorce attorneys and they see gay marriage as a possible revenue source that might replace all the heterosexual men that are scared of marriage based upon what the legal code has done to them and most others in divorce court.

Any Republican who publicly comes out against gay marriage might as well be campaigning for their opponent. This issue and the A-word are sure fire voter repellent for Republicans. The sooner they learn that, the sooner they can think about gaining seats back in the Senate and the House.
Good post, as bad as the democrats' record has been on Constitutional civil liberties, the republicans has been worse.

Nobody is trying to do "away with 'traditional marriage.'" They're seeking equality. This isn't a marriage issue, it's an equal rights issue. Nobody is seeking "everyone's blessing" on anyone's behavior.

Why shouldn't girly men and manly girls be given the God given (?) right to lose their homes, cars, bank accounts, pensions and other property in divorce court? Don't they deserve the chance to be as "happy" as heterosexual couples?

All I got to say is this is wrong and you better start reading the Bible. If one state will change the LAW for this then another one will do it also because USA is begining to be a FOLLOWER. USA use to be the leader and stand up for RIGHT and WRONG but now we just fall for anything and let it go because it's what the people want wheather if it's right or wrong and not what's in the GOOD BOOK THE BIBLE. We have throwed that a side and living wild but there is a price you are going to pay when you leave this world. Think about it. Just saying, Not hating. No need to comment because if the truth hurts then live with it. Everyone has the right to say what they want as long as it's the truth and if you don't belive it then read the BIBLE. SORRY IF IT HURTS BUT IT'S THE TRUTH.

The only reason why they stayed married was because there wasn't a divorce court for Eve to run to in order to get half of Adam's stuff that she probably had no part in accumulating. She couldn't claim "mental cruelty" about Adam getting angry over the con job she pulled on him with the apple since courts weren't invented yet and she didn't have a simpering media to make excuses for her.

Why not let the gender benders play the marriage game hoax and discover what heterosexuals have learned at about three to four hundred dollars per billable hour in divorce court?

Stay single, retire early and watch your office pals (men, that is) work until they are in their 70's.
