Let's rally around Terry Stephens for mayor. When Tom Murawski was first elected mayor in 1985, he won by 1,501 votes. Let's help Terry win by 1,502.

Is it a given that Terry is going to run? If filing date is the 29th, when will they post who is running? unless some of you who post on here have a inside scoop or are you Terry in undercover garb??

The first date to circulate petitions is this week. They are filed the week of January 20-26th, so anyone can jump in the race between now and then.

I guess you can say I have an inside scoop on this. Karen will not run for mayor, she's content being a trustee. Terry Stephens apparently told Tom Murawski about two weeks ago that he plans to challenge him for the position of mayor.

So, if you have "inside" scoop, can we trust you then for some good updates? This to me can and will be a serious matter since I have been a very long time resident and don't need someone jumping in with rumors. What does TJ think of Terry's challenge?

I speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Playing games and spreading rumors gets us nowhere.

When you ask about TJ I guess you mean Murawski. He's not please with Terry Stephens. If you remember, when Terry was 1st elected 25 years ago, Tom was one of his running mates. Fortunately, Stephens has seen the light and is ready to do something really big for this town. Terry has always been one of the hardest working trustees and as mayor he won't have TJM holding him down anymore. This can mean only good things for our community.

Yes, I do mean Murawski when I say TJ. I believe that Terry is very hard working or else he wouldn't keep getting elected. My problem with "them" so to speak is that it seems like they have always been so "smug" about everything. At least it seems that way to me. My belief is that if you want the "trust" of the people then you have to walk the Village and let them know who you are. The way Maggie Crotty did it years ago. For a lot of us, the concern is the East side and what it has become. I was told by Terry years ago that the were going to put a "squeeze" so to speak on the Landlords to clean up that area. So far, it seems to have gotten worse. I understand we are in a landlock so to speak and we can't build but, what is being done to attract new business'? I've lived here for many years and still see a lot of empty buildings where a business once stood. When and if Terry runs, will he point out the "downfalls so to speak and what he will do to change them? Also, who will his running mates be or is it too early to let that out?

I agree with you that all candidates really need to get out and knock on doors. I trust that if Terry Stephens and Karen Kries team up that there will be plenty of door to door activity. I know that in past elections Karen was tireless when it came to hitting the streets.

As far as business development, I know that Trustee Stephens put a lot of effort into the Village Center Plan. I trust that as mayor he would take steps to implement that plan.

1st time poster. Intersting blog here. I've lived in this town almost my whole life and nothing has ever changed. If T Stevens runs I'll vote for him. I hope he has good runningmates. The hole ticket will win if they play it right.

I have lived in this town my whole life and would really like to see changes other than stagnation. I know we can do a whole lot better.
I know Karen and also know how hard she works. The "key" is to have a good party and they WILL HAVE TO walk the town. Too many people in the past just let the cards fall where they did.
Next question is, who else will run and how PO'd is TJ that one of "his own" so to speak is going to challenge him?

At least Terry is one of us. Murawski doesn't know we exist on this part of town.

Like you, I have lived in this town almost my whole life. Needless to say, change comes slowly. However, I am confident that if Terry Stephens and Karen Kreis form a team, they can begin to put Midlothian on the right track.

As far as wondering how Murawski feels about one of 'his own' challenging him, I think we both know the answer to that question...

I would hope if Terry and Karen formed a team things could and would change for the better.
Now you have me "curious" as to who you are:):) I bet we would probably know each other.

Why is everyone thinking that Karen Kreis is gonna team up with Stephens? Remember Karen ran with TM four years ago and got good numbers. Also her old action party team helped TM with Home rule last time. Larry Ryan even wrote a letter for it. Maybe Karen will stay with TM. Then what will Stephens do? He better have a good strong ticket. lol

If it was me running for Mayor, I would definately get rid of the old buildings on the east side. Build new and get some big box retail stores in place of the dealerships. We have no great restaurants in town, how about a nice Red Lobster where the old Walgreens is. And how about a nice video rental outlet, i.e. Blockbuster. A family entertainment park and get rid of the crusty ol' taverns on Waverly Ave. Slowly but surely it could be achieved but when you have a dinosauer in office, I guess he really doesn't see change.

Very well put. I never thought of that one. As far as Video Reantals go, I think those are going by the wayside with "On Demand Video" now on Cable and Directv and Dish Net. Yeah, a good Restaurant would be nice but, don't you think in between Car Dealers and what we have now in food places are enough? I "heard" but don't know how true it may be, that a Staples was supposed to go in the old Walgreens. But, who knows? Probably another Bar.

Maybe Tom Murawski is finally starting to "get it". This past week he sat down with his department heads and laid down the law: 1. No more overtime unless he personally approves it. 2. Big budget cuts and no new, unnecessary purchases. 3. Hiring freeze across the board.

It's amazing how this guy wakes up when there is an election challenge. We're over 4 million dollars in debt and he finally gets serious about finances. What's next? Reconvene the Economic Development Committee???

If you want a good example of how the mayor clings to the past just goto the village web page. The picture for the elected officials is so old it has former clerk Bob Mcadams, former trustees Papino and Fran Verbal [no I wont call her Kreis-Verbal, her using that name was an effen joke]. It also has the old attorney Sullivan. Murawski clings to the past. Thats why the town is so screwed up.
