midland hotel rates

Lindsay, OK

We had to make a trip to Midland to visit relatives this past weekend. We found the hotel rates all jacked up since one year ago when we stayed there at the Hampton Inn, as well at all the other good hotel chains. The rates had gone up and additional fifty dollars per night, and even more than that if you stay from Monday thru Friday. All the hotel people said it is because of the oilfield. Well, what about average citizens who come to visit there? Why should we be gouged, when our visit had nothing to do with the oilfield business? It is a disgrace and a total rip off. Midland is an ugly, dirty, trashy, town full of weeds and grass burrs. Where in the heck do the big hotel corporations get off on charging those outrageous prices? Makes it hard on everyone. They are all definitely guilty of price fixing, as several hotels we checked had the same price, even the lesser hotel, trying to rent you a smoking room for $200. per night. I am contacting the BBB about all this, but probably won't do any good since they get away with whatever they want in Texas. We finally had to rent a room in Monahans, because we thought it would be less, but no, it was $209.00 for a basic room for one night. The room was noisy from traffic, walls were paper thin, and the so called free breakfast the next morning sucked so bad we couldn't eat there. That was at the Comfort Inn. Talk about the corporate Fu.k! Never again will we ever stay anywhere out there.

And FORGET about renting a nice apartment as well *seems to me. Is there a secret word or something? Even if a person is willing to pay for a nice place, there still isn't one available! ug! I just cannot believe this.

Just checked the rates for LaQuinta North Odessa vs. Manhattan, NYC. For the same dates, it is cheaper to stay in NYC. This is blatant price gouging.
who knows

Doesn't matter if they're cheap or not - they would be full either way. So why not make the money when they can?
