I would not move to leflore county ever again. I know the sheriff and I have alot of family that voted for him but hes turned out to be a dud. there have been more deaths in lefore county that I can remember in a long time. I think everyone has figured out the Sheriff and his new department of deputies are pretty much useless around here. its one thing to solve a murder after its happend but to prevent a murder is another. The reason there are so many murders going around is because the people commiting murder know that its a slim chance this poor excuse of a sheriffs department is gonna catch them. well only 3.5 more years to go. I wonder how high the body count will go before hes voted out.

It is heartbreaking to read that there have been no arrests in the murder of Joe Neff. What is going on with the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation?? Have they looked into past (scorned) girlfriends yet?? Joe was such a good man, and unfortunately there are those out there who might feel "entitled" to something that they never got. Shawna, Marie - I am with you in spirit. Please keep the faith - your dad is at peace and YOUR PEACE WILL COME once his MURDERER is found. Prayers are constantly with you....

I just came back from a visit with friends in Poteau, and while driving through Wister, I saw a flyer for Joe with the reward for any information leading to the discovery of his murderer. This is just so heartbreaking. I constantly pray that something will come to light, or that someone will talk, and that the heinous person(s) responsible for this inconceivable crime are brought to justice. Joe Neff did NOT deserve this, and his family does not deserve to continue to suffer with no information. This is NOT RIGHT. Please - if you know of ANYTHING, call the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation!!

being rich has nothing to do with it. Until someone solves it for them this Sheriff and his department will never get anything done. This isnt the deputies faults its the sheriffs. The quality we need in a sheriff is someone who identifies the training needs of a deputy and gets them the training they need to to complete their job. so its not their faults we need to demand that the sheriff takes care of his deputies and get them the training they need to help out the citizens of this great county. If this all happend in the first 6 months god help us all in the next 3.5 years

From reading the other posts it sounds like you expect the new sheriff to be a mind reader or super human. Have you all thought that maybe there are a lot of really bad people out there and until the sheriff and his deputies can start counting on the public to answer their questions truthfully and if you have any information wheather you get paid for it or not it is the christian thing to do, is let the sheriff know. Another thing the sheriff can't solve the murders like they do on TV. Lab results and warrants and such take time. Since he now has 6 to solve I think maybe all of you doubters out there should give Bruce your support instead of blamming and harrassing him. One last thing; I know first hand how it feels to lose a loved one as I am a widow myself at age 40 and my husand didn't make it to see his 37th So I send out my sympathy to all of the murder victims loved ones, just be patient and if everyone who knows something comes forward I am positive that Bruce will bring the murderers to justice. By the way I have never met or talked to Bruce Curnutt I just think some of you are giving him a hard time when it's not his fault.

i am also 40 and a widow. My husband was 33( I was 34)when he passed away in spuro. To this day I have not gotten a manner or cause of death. It was "undetermined on the "official" report. So after all this time I am supposed to sleep at night not knowing why a healthy, hard working, prince of a man died.No one cared at the police dept.then except one deputy who thought it was suspicious also.Next thing I know this one person who was so kind to me at this horrible time vanished from the Leflore county sheriffs dept.I cannot remember who the sherrif was at this time then but talking about incompetency in an investigation...people I lived and am still living that nightmare. It is so sad that there are so many resources out there to solve crimes and do not have the people with enough training in these positions to use them.

heart broke,
Cause of death and such is the responsiblity of a medical examiner, not a police officer. I'm not trying to be rude or anything so please don't take it that way. The OSBI has agents and crime scene techs to investigate these crimes. There is not one sheriff's office in SE Oklahoma that has their own homicide investigators or crime scene people that I am aware of, this is due to lack of a budget and enough personnel.

Homicides are not the only crimes not being solved in the county.I know that a woman was forciably raped by an exboyfriend in the past two weeks and for some unexplained reason it seems to be being kept quiet. I've not been able to find it in any of the news papers nor posted on the internet any where. The Rapist admitted that he did it and was arrested. He and his family members along with other friends of his have made threats towards the victim and her family causeing them to live in fear for their lives attempting to intimidate her into dropping the charges. What kind of law enforcement do you people of heavener have? Seems to me not any worth a sh*t. Just the way I sum it up.

I get sick and tired of these old gals yelling that their boyfriend or husband RAPED them. If they had been having sex with them willingly at one time then I do not consider that a true rape. Rape is when someone you have never been sexually involved with forces you to have sex. There are too many old gals that yell rape just to get even with the guy and I bet if the true story was known that is the case in this situation.
RAPE???? I say bull hockey. And no I am not a man. I am a female and I have seen my fair share of this sort of thing and how the old gals laugh and brag about it.

It's people like this that enable rapist to go free and rape again. This kind of attitude makes the victim a victim all over again, this is why so many rape victims never come forward letting rapist go free and continue to rape. Not until it happens to them or to one of their kin do they wake up and see the truth. This rapist has a record of sexual assault and then intimindateing the victims until they dropped the charges. I hope this time he has ran into someone that has close family to back her all the way thru this and put this animal where he belongs, in prison with his own kind.
This rape victim in question was brutaly attacked and sustained a lot of physical trama and plenty of edvidence was present to prove it. Besides that he admitted to it under questioning.

About the rape case:::It sounds like it is time for vigilante justice. If this is the rape case I think it is, the victim has one in her family that I know of that will serve out justice if the suspect goes free. That woman has always been his baby girl and he thinks the world of her. He has nothing to lose because he is dyeing from cancer.

So what about this case has not been solved? You said he was arrested and admitted to it while being questioned? Sounds to me like the officers did their job. Now it is the job of the DA to conduct the prosecution. Why do you care if it is being kept quiet? Police officers do not run to the media to report offenses. Perhaps law enforcement is trying to avoid any media coverage on the victim's behalf? If she is being threatened then she needs to report it, not just to the officers but also the DA.

She was the one that chose him. Why was she involved with someone like that in the first place. I am sure with this being a small town everyone was aware of what he was like.

Sounds to me like both sides are all "cut from the same cloth" and deserve each other.

With all the hispanic's moving to quite rural area's to bring in and fan out their drugs in places where money is is short and hard to come by, people not all mind you,,,, but still poor people looking to get ahead turn their heads, they know it's wrong but it beats starving, look at old mexico DRUG LORDS buy entire towns and the people love them because they are taken care of.
If we really want all this to stop we need to see the bigger problem.

Le Flore County investigators have had to deal with six homicide cases this year, a baffling number considering the county has about 50,000 residents.
Regardless, even if the authorities do not let any outsiders move into the county or the residents don't breed, at the current rate of six homicide cases a year it will take exactly 8,333.333 years to get rid of all of them. So, at least they got that going for them, which is nice.
