MOVE ON ALREADY

After all the hype and people really believing it (which was the saddest part) it now sounds like a funeral here in Utica over this topic! Like i said from day 1, it was all a hoax.

So...what's next in line...Blue Sox coming back???

No, but actually I never recall they coming out saying they were trying in the 1st place...other than a feb 24th FALSE statement by the OD

It was not a hoax.
The deal was made up of many parts that were inter-connected. I base that opinion on what I've read from real newspaper accounts and not blog entries.

Vancouver wanted to move their newly purchased farm team to Abbotsford where the Calgary farm team(the Heat) resides currently. They have a sweet deal with that city that guarantees break even financed by taxpayers. The city of Abbotsford, the Vancouver Canucks and the Heat were unable to make a deal that would have meant the Heat moving (possibly to Utica). They ran up against some hard deadline and that killed the entire thing. The Heat is staying put for at least one more year.

I still think that there is some local political deal that was made to bring taxpayer money for AUD improvements. Watch for that even though no AHL this fall. I think it will be in the guise of economic development no doubt but in reality will be the enhancements required to bring an AHL team here. I've said this before too. I think it will be Assemblyman Brindisi behind it as I think he is the only local politician who is clueless enough to think that something like this won't be met with taxpayer resistance.

I'm just guessing based on what I've read and seen. Unlike Utica34 I don't have any inside knowledge or inside contacts and don't claim to. I base my opinion on the facts as I see them and on past local political history.

Here's the article. I still believe the Canucks will end up owning that building and forcing the heat out.

Yes they did say the effort had failed.

The Heat said it.
Vancouver newspapers said it.
The mayor of Abbotsford said it.
The Abbotsford newspaper said it.

Everyone said it but Utica34.

They all said there was no deal in place. That was a true statement. The Heat among others said they had been approached by a group from Utica about a possible deal. Also a true statement. No one ever denied that there was interest and that they were talking about it. Talk is cheap.

No one but you and the OD blogger said there was a deal. You were both wrong.

No actually the abbottsford heat and the Calgary flames denied there are any talks of a deal. Then all of a sudden they come out and say they have not been able to make a deal. Why would they have to say they couldn't make a deal if they first denied there were even talks? I still believe this is posturing on both sides and ou will see a team in utica.

"It seems reports of the deal being near completion were premature. Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald talked to a representative of the Flames and this is what she said of that conversation on Twitter:

“Flames statment on Utica: We have been approached by representatives in Utica concerning an opportunity for the AHL.”

“More Flames on Utica: We understand they are building a case for the AHL to return there.”

These are not denials. These are statements from a Flames representative saying they had been approached. Would that not mean they had a talk about it?. The date of this report was Feb. 27, 2013.

When? Will Utica see a team this fall? Do you stand by your assertion that there is a deal in place?

I think everything slid a year. At least a year.

A win for local taxpayers and all taxpayers in the state of New York.

By the way:
http://www.wktv.com/news/local/Attempt-to-bri...

"Officials say there are many obstacles to overcome to get a team to relocate to Central New York including upgrades to the Utica Memorial Auditorium and from where that funding would come."
