If you were there, please confirm this nutty rumor. Say it ain't so, Batman!!!!!!

That is exactly what Peters told the Common Council: the lawyers wouldn't let him drop the matter. Bart lit into him and explained that lawyers work for the client (the City), and the client (the City) tells lawyers what to do or not do.

Burleson got rejected for the UR board seat that Peters took from Ruffing in retaliation for Resolution 18, after Gressler accused the mayor of firing past board members (the two codes guys) out of political petulance.

Burleson said something really weird but technically correct about an illegal meeting, but I can't figure out what the heck he was trying to accomplish bringing it up that way. I am disappointed that Gressler was involved in a closed-door meeting after all the fuss he made about similar closed-door meetings during the quarry saga. Maybe the Council should take the NY State open government training?

Chief Masi ejected the Assessor from the room for yelling at Ruffing and shaking her finger at him. I don't think they like each other very much.

Some guy in a funny hat, who is clearly a regular on Topix, showed us that boorishness is alive and well ... he couldn't shut up and kept droning on and on about strange conspiracy theories and the fact that he can't afford to shop at the co-op despite living in a mansion in town.

Funny hat guy's wife, who clearly gets all of her local news from Topix, accused the aldermen of being liars with conflicts of interest ... several different times ... she too couldn't shut up. And she accused the YMCA of threatening people if they wouldn't sign the petition.

Bart talked a lot too. At least he was cogent, if a bit boring (Yes, Bart, we know the YMCA is the best thing since Jesus, because you have already told us that several times).

Peters must have taken a double dose of Prozac before the meeting, because he managed to keep his temper and even crack a joke at the end.

You won't read any of this in the Evening Times. Sorry Rob, but you are wasting you life at that so-called news paper.

dig deeper that has more to do with the UR board and some changes they want made. Talk to Ruffing.

The meeting with Burleson is strange. I looked at the charter after the meeting on one of the desk it's talking about quorums for meetings in the chamber. The meeting that was held was with people from all groups of life not a closed door meeting.

The assessor was upset with the guys behind Ruffing laughing at Ed's questions. That's why she said he earns respect when they spoke.
Ed suggested taxing garbage like sewer and water.
That would be paid by taxpayers so unsure how that helps the Y paying for their share.

Hey news flash at least fiction is alive and well with your account of the meeting. No one called anyone a liar and some people asked intelligent questions and had ideas that differ from yourself. Not one council member answered the question if they had any conflicts of interest nor did they answer the current lawsuit action question. A citizen spoke up and said people did not want to get involved due to the nastiness and violent nature of the whole affair and another citizen said the petition she signed was misleading and a lot of other people felt that way too. They were mislead. Clearly there is no future for you reporting the news. You will just fabricate your version of events on Topix. All citizens have the right to speak and ask questions but you probably just sat there and said nothing yet criticize those who do. Armchair critic.

They had real live, in-the-flesh goons in attendance! And they are every bit as mean, ignorant, disorganized, and rambling in person as they are on Topix. Kinda funny looking, too.

The high point of the evening was when the Mayor's new tax assessor jumped up and starting pitching a bitch fit telling people how to act and got thrown out! If there was any doubt that the assessor is a raving out-of-control loose cannon, that doubt was publicly dispelled in a dramatic fashion last night.

The Mayor, attired in his usual clashing color combinations and bowling shoes, whined for a while about how nobody likes him, everybody hates him so I'll just go eat worms sort of stuff. He doesn't seem to understand that lawyers work for clients. He evidently thinks clients work for lawyers. But no one has ever accused him of being the sharpest tack in the box.

Burleson is up to some kind of conniving end-around play to try to get the Resolution 18 overturned by some bizarre interpretation of the charter. But he's a bizarre guy.

Council voted 6-2 to not allow Peter's to further politicize the URA board...big slapdown for him.

Thanks for channeling me.

Even when the goons are groping towards a decent thought, they are like zombies.

Way to fund garbage pickup is by selling bags like they do in Mohawk. EVERYBODY pays their share. Generate less garbage, recycle more, buy fewer bags. Generate lots of garbage, buy more. And no free rides for anyone, churches, Y's, everybody has to buy the garbage bags enough to accommodate their own garbage.

Current system subsidizes slumlords, whose clients typically have lots of garbage. Doing things which benefits the slumlords seems to be the reason for most things around here.
Great idea

There is a bag limit now just not enforced.
Your idea was suggested back in 2009 when there was a outside vendor but the mayor wanted his own trucks instead.

Well, it's not rocket science. The notion of paying by the bag for garbage disposal has been successfully implemented on lots of communities, some of which do this by private vendors, and others do this with publicly owned and operated garbage trucks. That is, there is no reason that you can't do this and still have shiny new trucks, except that you need to concentrate on the efficiencies of the system as a whole rather than just glee in acquiring yet another new shiny giant Tonka truck like an overgrown infant.

At this point I have completely lost faith in the basic fairness and equity of the current administration. After a spectacle like that, the Assessor needs to either resign or be fired. She is supposed to be a public servant, not the morality police. How can any of us feel that assessments will be fair under a person who is so wrapped up so emotionally in a single-issue political matter?

The Assessor got thrown under the bus by the mayor and the common council. You would be upset too. She is doing her job and the tax evaders are worried thats why you slander her.

Message to ghost of Burrell. Apparently the stylish hat wearing gentleman who resides in a grand mansion has got you all thinking about the financial health of our community known as Little Falls. No matter what the tax rates are in this town the same old tired problems persist. We as a community are pathetic. We go out of our way to denigrate each other and defile the true meaning of community. Isn't it a pity , isn't it a shame. In closing, the gentleman in the stylish hat lives in a mansion probably because in his lifetime he worked for it and has achieved the standard of living we should all aspire to. Also his ideas were very interesting and refreshing, after all the meeting just wasn't about the YMCA, it was also about the city's health. There are a lot of good attributes in this small up state town. We, as a community , had better look around and in the spirit of "It takes a Village" start caring more and start sharing the burdens of cost before the charm that is Little Falls is gone.

That is Edward to you Bobby. In so far as Edwards wife is concerned, it is conceivable that she may be you next Mayor. It would do you good to show her some respect. Also Robert sounds so much more grown up than "Bobby". I know Edward and he should not be underestimated.

Weird hat guy and his wife were an embarrassment. They kept going up to the podium time after time after time like they owned the place. Each of them must have spoken four or five different times, taking turns, and each one of them spoke for probably 15 or 20 minutes apiece. WTF? Was Peters up at the table reading Playboy and just ignoring the meeting? We gave him a gavel for a reason.

People ... Topix is the place for spouting bizarre conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated gossip, NOT Common Council meetings. If you are going to talk at a Council meeting, keep it brief, and keep it lucid.

Jesus H Christ on a stick! That was the most bizarre spectacle I have ever witnessed under the guise of governmental process.

You mean, like how Funny Hat Ed's wife has been spreading nasty slanders about the Jeff and Mark here on Topix, and then she repeated those same rumors in public last night? How dare she stand there and accuse the aldermen of being liars and having conflicts of interest! How dare she!

Who the hell are this "Edward" who wears funny hats and his wife? We already know they live in a mansion near the YMCA and spend a lot of time spreading lies and slanders on Topix. And we know he manifests some warning signs of schizophrenia, with all of his talk about how he is certain that the AG is about to come in and and change things to the way he wants them to be. But what else makes these colorful people a force to be reckoned with?
