Our hospitals are compelled by law to treat illegal immigrants in their emergency rooms without charge.

Put an Ice officer in each hospital. Then we'll see how many illegals come to use the hospital. I bet the hospitals would even pay the officer's salary, it would be a lot less than being stuck with the hospital bills of thousands of nonpaying illegal aliens.

I think it is a terrible state of affairs when illegals can receive treatment in a hospital emergency room and not be charged, while American Citizens have NO health coverage and are billed large amounts of money for blood tests and scans, etc. What is wrong with us? We have American Citizens who go to bed hungry, or are homeless and we are feeding illegals and other countries.

This is why we're headed to socialized medicine. The government figured out that keeping people alive longer is costing too much money. With socialized healthcare, they'll be able to decide when you die.

Halifax hospital in Volushia county announced last week They are going to cut everyones pay by 10%..Since 10% of its patients dont pay their bills....Sound fair...If I worked there I would be pretty p.o.ed...

Any health care professional who used the promise of health care as a means of arresting people would be lower than gutter fungus. Just because you would do such a thing to other human beings does not mean others would stoop to your level.

Few Americans go hungry, most Americans are overweight. Going to bed hungry would be a good thing for most Americans and would help take some of the burden off of health care.

ERs are obligated to treat all human beings who walk through the door.

My America is of a higher order than your America and does not act in the petty, small-minded and bankrupt way that you are advocating. The solution is, as it has been for over half a century, SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE FOR ALL.

The reason costs are out of control is because they can be. Privatized health insurance is a dismal failure and needs to be chucked out of the window immediately.

You must work for Healthnet who canceled the policy of a woman BECAUSE she was diagnosed with cancer and they didn't want to pay. She was insured by them so she wasn't any kind of freeloader, she was a customer.

Healthnet was slapped with a $9 million judgment and has some 1600 other similar cases pending. Imagine being insured, getting sick and then having Healthnet refuse to pay their obligation.

Are you Healthnet? Maybe you are Cigna who also refused to pay for a kidney transplant until it was too late and their customer died.

It is called DEATH BY DENIAL. These are paying customers being denied what is owed them because these corporations simply do not want to pay their obligations.

SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE is the only civilized way to go and large corporations are for releasing the burden as well. It is not perfect but it does guarantee a base level of support for everyone and it can always be improved upon.

The current system is horrendous, ineffective, inefficient, over-priced, bloated and mediocre. US medicine is the laughing stock of the industrialized world.

I'm sure most of the health care professionals would rather work under a SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM where they could spend their days treating patients instead of battling insurance company idiot bureaucrats.
