i know a couple people who have had it done. they look good and their health is great. biggest downside i see is the excess skin after the weight loss.

Some of them will, but I would say that your doctor could write a letter to your insurance company to get it approved!

I just had the gastric Bypass surgery in December and I am doing great. I have lost over 40 pounds in less than a month. I have had no complications but it is very rough in the beginning. I'll help you any way I can if you are interested in pursuing, with doctors or insurance.

i had gastric just 2 weeks ago. it's been an adjustment. i don't get hungry at all and fill up easy on liquids. i am able to eat though. soft foods like chicken/tuna salad, cottage cheese, eggs, basically any food that's soft and full of protein. but that's not forever! as of last friday (less than 2 weeks out from surgery) i had dropped 17lbs!!! no complications yet, i keep praying. it's hard to watch people eat the good stuff but i won't try, i don't want to get sick. people think it's the easy way out but nothing is easy about having your instestines re-organized and cut, watching family members eat your fav foods, getting sick if you eat more than 5 grams of sugar, working out everyday, watching your hair fall out, i could go on!!! even though i am 2 weeks out, i know it's totally worth it, cause in a year, im going to be 100lbs lighter!!! insurance will pay for it, i got approved the first try!

Tiffany,
We are right together. IM down 45 pounds from when I went to my first consultation. 2 weeks on protein is rough. It gets better once you can chew, but you still want to eat what everyone else does. I keep thinking "What am I not doing" , its been eating. HAHA.
Good Luck with everything!

I used Dr. Williams from Parkwest. He and his staff have been wonderful to me. From consultation to discharge from the hospital I could not have asked for better.

Thanks QB. Like I said before I wish you much success. I have lost weight & gained it back so many times I am tired of it. I might just look into having this done. Keep us informed about your progress.

yes, these first 2 weeks have been very difficult. id really like to eat but i don't physically think i could if i wanted. it's difficult to get in the recommended fluid everyday. but i had my surgery at St. Joe East in Lexington. they have a program fee of $300, plus i have to pay the copays of my over nights in the hospital. so i am sure i will be out of pocket about $600. thanks for the encouragement QB, good luck!!! my life has already changed just 2 weeks out!

I am not sure of the total cost. They gave me a sheet and I think the cost was about 23,000. My insurance paid 100% and I was approved within 6 minutes of faxing it in. I had to pay $500 out of pcoket for my program fee that covers me for I think 2 years. All insurance programs are different and some have clauses that totally prohibit any sort of payments for an obesity related case, BUT with a bit of a fight, and the right comorbidities (problems) it can go much faster. I have found sleep apnea to be a HUGE factor in approval for people. Dr. Williams has an insurance coordinator named Gina who works hard, and I do mean hard to get you approved. She was great to me. The main thing is to research your surgeon. If this surgery isnt done properly, your complications are terrible, not to mention the risk of death. Saving money in a case like this isnt always a good thing, because I really believe you get what you pay for. I wish anyone the best of luck in approval. I am convinced this surgery has saved my life. Im at 50 pounds gone and today is my 1 month mark.

Tiffany,

If you can post an email or something, we can email back and forth if you need anything. Might be good to have someone to talk to on the same track as I am.

They put me on phase 3 this last week, so I can chew and eat pretty much what I want excluding carbs like potatoes and rice and bread.(You know all the good stuff). Of course you dont want it, so it makes it useless really. I have had alot of problems with cold water over the last month. It would hurt so bad. Last night, I used a straw and drunk a big gulp because I just wasnt paying attention and it didnt hurt at all. Im at one month now, but I have heard this from just about everybody. I was having trouble with fluids too, until I had an epiphany. I LOVE Sonics lemon slushies, and of course, its half a cup of sugar in the ice mixture alone, so...I went to Walmart and bought a Rival Ice Crusher. It crushes it to a slushie like consistency. I made me some crystal light lemonade in a bottle of water, and poured it over and it was like heaven to me. Ive tried all flavors, and since your mainly eating ice, you get satisfaction from the eating of the ice, and the fluid benefit. It helped so much. I have had more trouble with protein but found an excellent unflavored protein powder from Unjury.com and Ive added it to everything from tuna salad to refried beans with cheese from taco bell and you cant tell its in there at all. Its about 20g a scoop and coupled with whats already in the actual food your eating, its great.

Hope your doing good today!!

Is there a weight you have to be before you are able to get it, I weighed 230 -3 years ago, I got down too 155 pounds by taking diet pills and I stopped drinking soda and eating out.I stopped the diet pills about a year or so ago, I have slowly gained about 25 pounds back, Its so hard, I still dont drink pop dont eat out but once a month w/family. Do you have to have a bad health history before you r able to have the surgery???

i am just now getting to where i can tolerate crystal light, at first it was too, sweet. but i do have unjury, but it's the chicken flavored, it's pretty tasty with chicken broth! i do wish i had gotten the unflavored though. plus i drink protidiet hot chocolate 15 grams of protein per scoop and a half, you've got to try it!it goes down sooo easily. but that's great, i would love to have someone to email about this. my email is tiffanylynnwoods@gmail.com...
