Her name was Ms.. Adkins and she pack a mean whollop. I was in Ms. Bryant's and Ms. Johnson's classes. I remember the school, Pappy Johns, playing on the school yard and getting cinders in my knee. Jumping rope, those were really good times.
I was also in Miss Bryant's and Miss Johnson's classes. Those old harridans shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near children! Also, had Mrs. Sanders (1st grade) and Miss Ausmus (3rd). Do you remember how they would segregate the girls from the boys on the play ground? Lord, all this makes me feel so old.

Ms. Kalfas would give me the heels of bread because most kids didn't like them Steve and I would have 6 or more slices at lunch. Found where Bill would throw away the confiscated marbles on the canal bank Binky and I ended up with thousands. That cinder covered playground sure was rough to fall on.That old furnace room had a mystic all its own.

As a teenager, I worked at Wakin's Hardware. Remember Perry & Pope's, I think it was a drug store, with a lunch counter. There was a place called the Gold Post, we would go there before we went skating. I don't think it was open very long. Man life was good back then.

At Wakins hardware you could buy carbide. We would throw it in puddles an light it,Wow. You could buy dynamite fuse we would cut sections light it an throw it in the canal to watch it fizz around like a rocket boat.Try that now? Someone said the little restaraunt across from St. Julians was ran by a Ruby Walls whose husband was Randolph.Seems they sold produce under the canopy after it was closed.Dad picked up a lot of packages for the business he worked for at the bus station. It was very smokey but it had good hotdogs.

I remember the old Cumberland Hotel, it should have been designated a "landmark". It was torn down in the sixties and replaced by a tacky strip mall.
Then there was the Middlesboro Hotel and Suman's Restaurant next door to that. And of course, the infamous "Majestic"!
I don't remember a hotel on 18th & Lothbury. Must have been before my time.
President Nixon stayed their 3 different times also, the magestic daisey tamer made a mint their.
