Subscriptions down 30 percent across the country in every newspaper. Can't last too much longer on that percentage.

get a paper and cut out all the news taken of the wire or ap. And all the stuff we dont know anything about and see how much you got left. How bout some up to date police reports. You see accidents ever day if you travel around much but never hear bout them in the paper. I called and complained bout missing obts and they sorta scoalded me. I can survive without the daily news but they cant survive without readers. But that is the way things work when the owners live in another state

The funeral homes are the ones who send the obits to the newspaper. The family usually writes the obit & it gets passed along to the paper that way. Of course, some people are very private and don't want an obit published. There's nothing the paper can do about that. An obit isn't a public record.

When I first came here in 1989 the Daily News didn't have Monday papers. I think they started them back in the mid 1990s. Know some people who worked there at the time and they said the reason they did a Saturday paper and not a Monday paper was because of the tv listings and they didn't want to leave high school football stories out until Mondays. Go figure.

if they would get rid of most of the people in the office front and back that are not necessary, I'm sure they could keep the monday paper. Most of them writers out there do nothing but waste time and they get paid for it. Cut back on the number of inserters too, it may take a little longer but since when was the newspaper early. The carriers could insert their own salespapers or what have you, other big companies do that. As far as the paper going down, nope that ain't gonna happen. have you ever considered what your carriers have to do. They do not work for the daily news, they're independent meaning they have to pay everything out of their pockets. Do you think daily news gives them an increase in pay when gas skyrockets to 4 and 5 dollars a gallon, nope, they carry that expense. I say keep the monday paper and lay some useless people off. yeah everyone needs a job but look around at the economy, I'm sure they could draw unemployment benefits unlike the carriers. You can bet they will cut the carriers money back too, some haven't had a raise in years. they're some that still make the same as they did 20 years ago. It's a shame when you live in a nation as america and we still have people living off of a income based on less than the minimum wage. So the next time you gripe about paying 9.50 for the paper, just remember you're helping someone's family put food on the table. Gas is the most expensive purchase made by your carriers, and its a shame they have to put more money in a job than they get out just to be able to have a job and the hope that things will get better. I look at it this way, I'll gladly pay my 9.50, but not because of the daily news, but because it helps someone else out.

well if you read the article in the newspaper it would have told you the rates were going to remain the same and cut a day short instead of raising the prices. there, more than my 2 cents!! Learn to read you ignorant uneducated people.

Im sorry i responded to the thread on here. next time i see a thread with your name on it i will ignore it. i didnt really pay attention to it and just commented on my feelings about the paper. I also know how the obits get to the news paper. but they didnt have to be so sarcastic about it.

In what way did you interpret sarcasm from my five short sentences? I wasn't being sarcastic at all.

A lot of people think the newspapers write the obits. I merely wanted to explain how that works. That's all.

If your feelings are so easily hurt, maybe you shouldn't respond to any more threads. Now that was just plain mean...no sarcasm here.

If it goes up to 10.00.. Is it going back up to 6 days?
I think the Monday "day off" is the most STUPID thing I ever heard of. This means that after midnight Saturday morning we won't get the pineville or harrogate news till tuesday.

Seems to me, Tuesday or Thursday would be the best day to cut it off. But of course I'm a logical thinker and not a woman so.. My opinion doesn't count.

Oh well, doesn't matter Troy doesn't deliver on most days till Noon or later anyway and by then I've already bought one. I'm canceling.
