Anyone got any info on the recent lay offs from appollo fuels? Heard that they weren't gonna call anyone back but contract out instead. That's pretty low to not tell folks that there ain't no need to wait for a call when one ain't coming. Would like to hear thoughts on this.

Mountain top removal mining is the biggest disgrace man has ever done to the mountains of Ky. The mountains are NEVER coming back.

Underground mines do minimal damage, disturbing only a few acres of lands, are easy on the water shed and is more enviromentally friendly. The expense really no more than MTR, but the work is harder.

When I look at the mountains around here, my heart is sickened at the sight. Over a billion dollars of coal has been removed from these mountains in just a few years by MTR.
I do support coal in our area, it means jobs for many. But, MTR is a cancer on this land. Making a few filthy rich, and leaving a scar that will never heal. Underground mining is a better choice for the enviroment. Stand against the raping of the land. Demand that coal be extracted by underground mining practices.

I didn't ask about thoughts on mt top removal. I asked what anybody knew about the lay off situation. For your info, the folks laid off didn't do mt top removal mining. Add to that the fact that coal mining feeds many people in our area and this layoff starves the same. I love God's creation but he also hada purpose for mining or else it wouldn't exist. Think about where you live and where most of the money in this area comes from. Again, I asked about the lay off. Guarantee the guys it effects are more interested in it than your thoughts on here. Bet you voted for Obama. Get a job cause miners here won't be supporting you while we're out of work.

This is so sad. I've got family and friends that work close by there. The company is called Debra Lynn Coal. Is that company O.K.?? Please let me know.

I worked for Apollo and got laid off in March and was told we would be called back, but the dirty back stabbing lying cutthroats are not going to call any of us back. They are subcontracting out our jobs and thats just plain wrong.Gary doesn't care about nobody that worked or works for him. They even refused to pay vacation pay that was due to some, but Kentucky Labor Board said it would be paid.So if anyone is owed money, contact them and you will get your money

Is there anything the labor board can do about them subcontracting when they have men laid off?

they screwed several people on unemployment benefits by paying half in ky and half in tn. they could at least have the guts to tell people go look for a job because your jobs are being contracted out. Hope his equipment falls on top of him. Good riddance!

Heard the same thing but then heard that when the permits come in, the jobs will be contracted out to other companies who will bring their own people to work. I don't know why they can't just tell everybody that. First heard the permits would be about 6 weeks then longer. Don't know who to beleive.

Will any of the guys laid off be called back to work for the company subcontrated? Any of the guys off the high-wall miners (since CHH is doing mostly strip work)? Will Gary still operate the High wall miners or are they contracted out as well?

only if you hire in for CHH,and as for the miners,I was told one would be behind CHH,but I would guess all the Mizes will be on it

You're probably right about the one with te Mizes. But what about the other two miners? Will Chh run them? I heard one will be Ray Collett and that leaves one more. Would you have to apply with another company or will Appollo call back some for it?
