Did anyone attend Ward Chapel in the 60's? If so, you remember Mrs. Chumley, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Hensley, Mrs. Slusher, Mrs. Meyers, Mrs. Adkins, Mr. Hensley, Mr. Thompson, and Mr. Burnette. Great teachers who weren't afraid to paddle to keep unruly students in control! No one also can forget Mr. Taylor, the principal, who also ruled with an iron fist. No one EVER brought a gun or knife to school!!!! Ahh, the good ole days!!!

mr minor is my husbands uncle. He is such a great person. I play uno cards with him, and believe it or not he talks about alot of you guys. I don't know you but I sure do like to hear his great stories. My aunt and him went to school there also during their grade school years. Can't get into playing cards for talking about his days as a student and his days as teacher. I will let him know about this site. He would love a reunion.

PIRATE FAN: Elmer was also my favorite (and just about my only) bus driver! He was also my cousin coincidently!

Anyway, Ms. Ridings used to live up in Ambleside, which was just up from my house. She was also my 2nd grade teacher!

I only went there until 6th grade then on to the middle school. The middle school was on its 2nd year when I began my 1st year there.

I was unaware they had torn down Ward Chapel, this really saddens me. I moved away when I was 18 and never really looked back. I do visit my family there occasionally and I am planning a trip next month...i'll go by and look at the old place!

I STILL HAVE A T-SHIRT FROM 4TH GRADE (MRS. LOWES CLASS) THAT LISTS EVERY PERSONS NAME ON IT THAT WAS ATTENDING THE SCHOOL AT THAT TIME! I WILL CHERISH THAT SHIRT EVEN MORE NOW! WOW

I attended Ward Chapel '85-'91, The best fights happened after lunch on the play ground. You had time to eat and spread the word (of course you had to refuel before someone got a busted nose or lip.) I had forgotten our fine play ground It was awesome. The real play ground was on top of the hill, playing kick ball. Does anyone remember the Brian Brock and Dallas Honeycutt Fight?

Hey, Drummer Boy:

A great big Thank You for starting this post!!

I have enjoyed reading everyone's memories. I graduated from Ward Chapel at Meldrum Baptist Church in 1983. This in one of the BEST topics ever, in my opinion.

THANK YOU!!

I went to Ward Chapel from 1st to 8th grade. My siblings and children got educated there too. My grandchildren are not so fortunate as to attend a school like WCS. I have fond memories of the teachers (it amazes me that some who taught me are still living!). I also remember our daily routine of reading the Bible, saying a prayer and the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag. The years at WCS were some of the best.

Odell was my bus driver. He could scare the life out of you going down page cut off! Thomas Mason could make Odell so mad it he'd nearly blow his top! My favorite memory though is just walking through the doors every morning and smelling breakfast. Seems like I was always glad to be there. It was a great school.

I started school there in 1956, Ms. Chumbley was my teacher. Gave me a paddling in the first grade.

Went to school there and played basketball, JD was the coach.

Mr. taylor was the principal.

My mother taught there.

I had an ole friend that went there. His name is Steve Carnes he was my best friend in high school. Does anybody know where he might be now? We graduated from Bell in '92. The last time I talked to him I think was '94 he was working in Richmond.
It seems you graduated from Bell the same year as my older sister. Her name was Jeannie Lee. I don't know if you knew her or not.

I went to Ward Chapel from K-3rd grade, which I think was from about '89-'93. The only teachers I remeber are Mrs. Barton, Mrs. Moyers, Mrs. Bischeglia ( I think I butchered that spelling) and Mrs. Kelley. I remember the faces of the other teachers, but not names.

Oh, I can remember all those teachers. They were awesome. I remember setting on the side of the sc hool hitting sand rocks. lol It was so strict, not even allowed on the grass. I remember so many people. I was cheerleader with Kay Hendrickson, Nancy Wilson, Carolyn Helton, Donna Cobb, Jean Ward and I can remember the others...sorry. I thought we had the greatest basketball team in the world. I remember one game we had with long Jack. Donna got the ideal of mixing jergems lotion and brown ink together to make our legs looked tan. We did it and when we started sweating it was running down our legs. lol WOW what great times. I would love to have a reunion.
